Hi, I have looked through the forums and there seems to be a lot of issues with the central locking mechanisms on the MGF/TF, but I’ve not managed to find an answer specifically for what’s happening to my TF 2003 1.6 with 3 button fob.
The cars doing very little miles currently and I’ve done the worst thing and let the battery run down unfortunately. Since pulling it off and recharging it I’ve refitted it and I’ve got some serious central locking gremlins. Pressing the lock button arms the alarm, but doesn’t lock the car. Pressing the unlock button disarms the alarm and both doors clunk as they should. However when I open the drivers door both door locking mechanisms click every second around 5 times, then they both turn to what sounds like horrendous machine gun fire and something else starts clicking behind the dash until the drivers door is closed again and it all stops. None of this happens when I open the passenger door.
So far I’ve seen possible causes as the locking mechanism failure, failing battery. I’m unsure of the batteries age (the voltage does drop to 11.8 while all that is happening, then returns to 12.5) Or a failed relay. Any advice with where to start here is hugely appreciated.
Kind regards,
James.
