I wonder if any one can help me on this one,my alarm on my 1996 mgf vvc keeps going off after what can be anything from 10mins to 2 hours after locking it,This can happen in the car park and my garage anywhere. It has no volume sensor fitted,I,ve checked the wiring loom near the bonnet hinge i've check the front bonnet switch door switches, nothing i've had to disconnect the dame horn for now but this is dodgey because i needed it the other day.i have thought about taking it to the garage but i would like to try everything and anyone possible before forking out lots of dosh on a mechanic to scatch his head for hours.

please help someone

I suspect a collapsed microswitch in one of the door latches.
My moneys on that.

My interior light used to stay on, and it wasn't until I drove the car at night that I noticed it. I used to have to open the passenger side door and shut it again. Fitted new cherry switches in the drivers door lock and hey presto.

Dieters Site is where I got the info from and it's a time consuming and fiddly but cheap job. If you can be better to replace the assembly with one from a scrappy.

alarm

I had a similar problem with mine, turned out to be a duff battery, I fitted a new battery and it stopped going off. Then after I had it serviced it started again, this time it was a loose battery connection. After fixing that it hasen't gone off again.

Hi, I too have had this experience, only very rarely and am interested in fixes.

I have noticed this has only occurred while the car is garaged and on very windy nights. The garage has a large roller door, which tends to act as a sail and flexes in the gusts, would this create enough air pressure to trigger the sensors? I would doubt it.

Interior lights working fine.
My battery is quite newish, 2006, but maybe this is not really considered 'new'. Door micro-switches I have not thought of. Must check Pete's site too.

Is this a common problem??, must confess have not done a Forum search yet, will do though.

PS: Forum search did not reveal a lot.

I had a new battery fitted last month,no problems there,A couple of years a go i had to get the AA to tow me away from the place where i used to work because the mobile phone masts on the roof was stopping me from unalarming the car,as soon as i was 100yds from the building i was able to unalarm it.To be honest the alarm on tis mgf is the pitts i have to stand right next to the car pressing the button several time to unalarm it (i've had new batteries fitted to both key fobs),and i've done the old trick of putting the fob to my temple (on my head to act as a antenna) to unarm it,the switches on the doors seem ok checked them.I'm running out of ideas on this one,i thought about setting switch up to turn on and off the norn so can used it but that seem a bit crude.

alarm reception

to get the alarm to respond better, you can improve the antena on it. If you remove the triangular footwell panel(the one with the light in), preferably on the paseger side, u will see the alarm unit, with a spirally yellow wire sticking out the back. If u straighten the wire out and attach the end high up, the remotes work a lot better.

hello. thanks to everyone for all the previous invaluable advice i have read on this forum.
i currently have a very similar problem to nexus4 in my 97F. the alarm is always going off and the interior courtesy lights remain on quite often. i also noticed that the outside lights do not flash when activating the fob to lock the car, but they do when i use the fob to open the locks. i am pretty convinced that the microswitch is at fault but am slightly reluctant to attempt a really fiddly sounding job especially in these weather conditions! As a temporary measure i have removed the horn fuse because i am not keen to leave it unlocked. the fuse apparently also controls something called "stop lights", these sound suspiciously like brake lights but the brake lights still work! does anyone know what these may be before i attempt to drive anywhere?
maybe ebay or a scrappy and a new lock may be an easier combo.
any thoughts greatly appreciated.
