MG Monthly UK Registrations

182685 Views 1258 Replies 39 Participants Last post by  patpending
This thread is to discuss, and make guesses about, MG monthly registrations in the UK which are generally on the up - but how much?

I'm not the only fan of MGs who's not here as often as they used to be and I don't think we have the quorum any more to run a separate thread for each month, but if we have a thread with no month in the title, then anyone can start the ball rolling for subsequent months and update the summary of who has guessed what in their own post.

MY October guess is. 555
In words - five hundred and fifty five. OK.
You can change it in the next couple of days if that's a mistake.
No gnu yet!

Looks like it was 4749 sales for October, a 103% increase from 1 year ago!
3.53% of the market.

@patpending was closest!

Let the numbers come on for Novembers sales.

Yep, just seen this..

I took 2021 and doubled it, in fact it's up 103%.
For the record, our guesses:

MG's 43,061 sales to date leaves them needing 6,939 (3,470 registrations a month) to reach 50,000 for the year.

Last year they were a little off that with 4,184 (Nov) + only 1,126 (Dec) giving 5,310.

The 4,749 for November trounced Tesla, which registered only 11 cars in this "off month" and was itself outsold by almost four times by Ora's 42 in its debut month! (Anyone seen a UK reg Cat? Where can you buy them?)

However, Peugeot recovered to 5.642 to beat MG's now-established 12th place at no.11 and Vauxhall and Nissan bounced to 6 and 7 respectively. And after Ford had announced it was axeing the Fiesta, the now smallest Ford was not only in the Top Ten for the first time in months, it was top-selling car on 4,230! (lots of potential ICE sales in that sector with Corsa at no.5 with 2,784 and also at no.2 YTD with 32,126 for the promised ICE MG3 replacement to take).

October's Top 3: 1. Ford; 2, VW; 3. Audi.
Time to guess for November.

If MG need under 4,000 a month to reach 50,000 for the year, I'm going to guess they'll do it and get 7,143 for November.
Not going to be quite as optimistic as you but let's get them over that line with a 6941. I can't help thinking of the great reviews the MG4 is getting and if they can deliver them, I think they'll sell well.

I am going 3400. Think the upcoming Xmas season and cost of living crisis will lower the registrations.
Long time no play.
I'm going for 5,600
Well done everyone for keeping this going!

No-one is expecting the current situation in China to have significantly reduced sales... with Guy Pigounakis saying MG could easily have been selling 6-7,000 Marvel Rs in a year here, that we'll get the next model, and that that all current models except MG4 will be replaced by end 2024, we head to the end of the year with even MINI and Škoda likely to come behind MG, which seems likely to take 12th position.
Long time no play.

Well, I see we've been going over five years from when monthly sales were in the 800s. This is a bit of fun but the guess for MG is becoming increasingly important for the whole market as their market share tops 3%!
Was it in January you last posted? I've actually changed the competitors to brands in the Top 20 since then... ;)
FFS... How many times have i got to enter this before getting the right answer.. 🤣
Anyway.. December's numbers will be 3509

EDITED AFTER NEW INFORMATION

So, after reading on a few FB posts about delays in registrations due to numbers of Petrol engines being reegistered, I am going to change my guess to 1700
5,062. GSi wins!
Hurrah!
Looks like taking a break from predictions paid off!

You can probably amend it to top ten next year with the MG4 on sale.

MG can be top ten for December month if it's a typical second "no boat this month" month for Tesla, who are top ten one month and behind Rolls-Royce the next, and if Peugeot have another bad month.
