MG Monthly UK Registrations

This thread is to discuss, and make guesses about, MG monthly registrations in the UK which are generally on the up - but how much?

I'm not the only fan of MGs who's not here as often as they used to be and I don't think we have the quorum any more to run a separate thread for each month, but if we have a thread with no month in the title, then anyone can start the ball rolling for subsequent months and update the summary of who has guessed what in their own post.

January 2018 registration figures due on 5 February.

January 2017 total MG 205. MG3 165, MG GS 40.

Some customers are already ordering for 18 plate, but last month was over 400 and transporterloads of ZS are being sold.

So I'll guess 352.
I'll go for 330, and I think that's optimistic.

I think sales of MGs are very poor at present . I've only ever seen 2 GS and zero "ZS" models on the road. I suspect the "ZS" (which was billed as MG Motors's big seller) are minimal, just like the GS. There are far too many SUV models on the market. Now, if they would build a hot hatch or a sports car.........

I'll be looking at the new MG3 with a view to replacing our 4 year old 3. But I'll only buy if it seems to perform better than the old one, which will be a hard thing to judge on a test drive. Also, I'm very dubious about the interior, especially the dash. I wouldn't mind betting the new one will be heavier, too - that's what usually happens, and it won't do anything for the feeble performance/economy.

MG really need to get their act together.
MG Monthly UK Registrations 2018

A new thread for the promise of a new year*.

JAN 2018

GSi 300
G0MRL 330
patpending 352
nonamenoname 370
adaveabbott 375
MGJohn 411
gnu 440
isto 509 WINNER
batoutoufhull 510 "maybe even higher" (nice try, batoutofhull lol)
Adam Dutch 525
mattie007 611

EDIT Result is 475. Isto wins!

In Jan 2017 MG Motor UK registered 161 MG3s and 44 GSs to total 205. Given December 2017 was over 400 and ZS is selling strongly it would seem that the number will change this year. But it's only weeks to the 18 registration - and can MG supply enough ZSs to meet demand?

My guess is 352. Figures out on 5th Feb.

*Can't get p5 of the thread to show. If it can be sorted then this thread can be merged with it.

There are alot of suv adverts out at the moment. Mitsubishi, BMW, Citroen c5, ford eco sport, KIA Stonic, Hyundia KONA. There will be more. So MG will have more company by the middle of 2018. Lets hope they get out on the road before the big boys do.
510 for me. Maybe even higher.

Sales are supposed to double this year. 9000/12 = 750 so it makes you wonder if these high predictions are pessimistic lol!

Who predicted this? Not Cheyne by any chance?

TBH there's no point going back to check and it will be more important what the new team say.

Couldn’t agree more. Hopefully the new team will be more realistic with their predictions.

I’ll go for 525.

Predictions are little more than guesses. Look at the massive doom and gloom negative predictions by the naysayer experts and media news vendors in the run up to the vote on June 23rd 2016. They were obviously well qualified to predict. Those experts and academics with all their accumulated cleverness, they frequently remind us about, particularly the highly over rewarded shower at the BBC, got that right didn't they just?

I'll make a prediction ... based simply on past form of the monthly sales totals and more importantly, China MG are extending their range of model options to have a far wider appeal to UK car consumers' current tastes. Consumers vastly outnumber car enthusiasts. So to my prediction. I predict sales of China MGs WILL increase steadily here in the UK as word gets around and could well double or treble in a year or two. If that comes to pass, the UK totals will still be far less than the other massive volume "white goods" vehicle producers.

You never know, having my fellow countrymen's ( and women's .. PC awareness noted ... ) actions and failures denied me the pleasure of buying a UK built MG ever again, I may just add to that China MG sales/registrations totals next new car I buy.

Particularly if they produce something realistic on these lines to satisfy my late-life crisis...

Sadly a 5 minute life on British roads with all the speed bumps. We can but dream.
Let's go for an optimistic 510...
Isto, that was the figure I made batoutofhull take. I've given you 509 so he still wins if it's 510½ lol.

the facelift we are hoping for this year?
Hopefully the new team will be more realistic with their predictions.
TBH the faster MG can grow in the UK with more models (sportscar?), more model variants (hotter ones? hybrids?) and more dealers, as well as in places like Europe, Japan and the US, the faster SAIC start to leverage the brand and the sooner they can ramp up with more advertising. If I were in Shanghai I'd be getting out the limbimnimbimwings at this opportunity.

You can now lease a Longbridge-engineered electric LDV van in Germany. I wouldn't even have predicted that on Monday!
