MG is lower than even I had guessed, but the traditionally low sales month of August means that 1,494 registrations trump not only Citroën and now-low-selling Dacia, but Renault again and - sensationally - MINI and Volvo! so if your neighbours got a new 21 reg car in the last month, it's more likely it was an MG than either a MINI or a Volvo. Twice as likely as it being a Renault!

YTD, MG is still ahead of the three Japanese marques that outsold it this month, but the margin is narrowing. Look at the difference to MINI and Volvo and see what a wobble they had in August!
But look at Renault YTD, they are genuinely in trouble!

It was recently pointed out to me that pure diesels and indeed pure petrols are becoming replaced by mild hybrids, whose every mile driven is powered by fossil fuel, so that now the fact that for every two actual diesels sold, three BEVs are sold, is becoming less relevant than that BEVs are up to 16% of all fossil-powered cars. I wonder how high that will go?

Portbury? I'll look out for them next time I'm going down the M5. Always lots of cars parked up near the docks....

Only two more MG selling days left this month.

Aug 2021 - 1,494
Sep 2020 - 3,668

MG told us halfway through the month that they had by then sold 20,000 this year, which in itself is a record, but also meant they had already sold 2,501 this month until then!

And in the last couple of weeks a huge interest in EVs suddenly.

My guess is 4,641, MG's best-ever month. The 71 reg sales boom can make things a bit unpredictable but as a side bet I'll say "more than Renault" also, and I'll be very surprised if not better than Citroën. Dunno about Mazda, I'm seeing a lot of shiny new Mazdas. Honda? Volvo and MINI are presumably out of reach.

As of this evening,

It's at least 2,501 per MG Motor UK, boys, plus two weeks' sales. simcor is incredibly pessimistic but SpottyCat is wrong, happily for MG fans. You can each have a replacement guess if you like.
I'll up it to 2900 but can't see it being anywhere near 4k cars sorry.

Looking back to our first guesses on this thread four years ago:

SEPTEMBER 2017

Actual registrations: 842.

gnu 868 WINNER!
batoutofhull 895
MGJohn 897
bopper 908
Isto 998
adaveabbott 1,050
Patpending 1,143
mirtininkas 2,000

September 2016, the first month when MG was selling only MG3 and MG GS, was a record month for MG Motor with 1,005 cars registered. Now August 2017 was a great month in which MG overtook not only Ssangyong, but even Alfa Romeo, and registered four times as many cars as Subaru! My feeling is that sales are going very well in 2017 and this month I have seen several dozen sales from a handful of areas not including the big-volume players, so I am going to start the ball rolling before the month has even ended...
Note that only four years ago MG was dicing with SsangYong and Alfa Romeo who are selling maybe 10% as much as MG today. August 2021 sales could be five times August 2017 through maybe three times as many dealers.

You and me both but don't expect to win the £139 million i think it says for Euro millions Friday as I've already bought the winning ticket
I'll buy a few thousand cars one month from MG when I do so I can actually win a guess but tell no one about it lol
