MG Monthly UK Registrations

This thread is to discuss, and make guesses about, MG monthly registrations in the UK which are generally on the up - but how much?

I'm not the only fan of MGs who's not here as often as they used to be and I don't think we have the quorum any more to run a separate thread for each month, but if we have a thread with no month in the title, then anyone can start the ball rolling for subsequent months and update the summary of who has guessed what in their own post.

The result was 2,146 so well done Steve-J-Owen in a month where only one of us was not too high but was also far too low!

Compared with the April 2020 of complete lockdown, when MG sold a massive 45 to go one better than Renault, it's been a stupendous April with lots of zeroes in the year-on-year percentages , which I omit.

It's actually been a pretty good month as showrooms re-open. A lot of diesels sold - for fleets?

Mazda2,243971.58%
Renault2,3612151.67%

The YTD figures also show MG zooming away from Fiat/Dacia/Suzuki and now mixing it with Mazda and Honda (and winning YTD!) - Honda seem to have engine problems (not enough EVs?) as they slow down 30%. Renault and Citroën are ahead for now.

BEV sales are down to just 2/3 of diesel as per the whole year.

Well done SJO for the win, although no one was that close. (y)

I think the ability to drive where you like in the country, go to the pub and then have a hotel room has affected the game. Speaking personally, I was ahocked to discover there's only one more month in the first half of 2021! So the first post about the month is on the last day of the month.
May 2020 [in the first, hard, lockdown] was only 177 sales, though last month April 2021 was a massive 2,146 . All the adverts talk about people going out and socialising,we are being encouraged to drive around, going abroad (even to France or Germany!) is a bit of a non-starter, and while many people have suffered financially due to the multiple restrictions, many others have saved large amounts of money they are looking for something to spend on before inflation re-appears. Plus it is lovely sunny weather and the tide has turned decisively in favour of EVs.
So my guess is a little higher this month, 2,497.

My guess this month is 2,350.
A very late one by Dave there! With an outstanding 2,453 sold in a quiet month, I still win, though...

and remember when in lockdown MG beat Renault by one? Flash in the pan? No, both Renault and even Citroën beaten fair and square in May! Mazda and Honda ahead - but what were Suzuki on in the month?

But look at this! MG sales up 89% year on year, though the market is only up 42%. None of MG's rivals comes close, though Mazda is best at "nowhere near half" lol. Look out Renault and Citroën! MG beat you both this month.

And it's now just about as normal to buy a BEV as it is to buy a diesel!

As the Euro Groups draw to a close and we wave goodbye to North Macedonia, it's time to start the game again.

Whilst we were not fully out of lockdown last year, June 2020 sales were high at 2,025, only one car short of equalling the month plus the year! May 2021's 2,453 was even higher than that. As the first road-registered (by MG) Marvel Rs arrive on the continent, it seems to be the EVs driving this.

On the one hand we hear of lucky people who amassed a wedge of wonga during lockdowns/restrictions (full pay, no commuting, no entertaining, no socialising, no travel) buying big ticket items like Lamborghinis in "lockdown revenge". On the other, where should we drive? and whilst Brexit does not appear to be a material cause in holding up car imports, there is a global semiconductor shortage and anecdotally people are being warned against ordering an MG in a spec which is not already somewhere in the UK.

So I'll go even higher at 2,781, though if people have the money to buy a Lambo I'm not sure they would be buying 20-30 MGs instead(!).
