Roobs is the fella that had starter for sale, but just check that all the terminals on your existing motor are clean and tight and a full battery.

The starter I have is for a TF LE500, if it is compatible you can have it for £60 (it's brand new and I paid £80) - drop me a message and we can sort something out for you. Like D4KGP says though, check your connections first as mine had a loose spade connector.

Is there a fuse which is in line with the lead to the starter solenoid Im waiting for a circuit I need to check if there is any voltage on the ignition switch pin, which feeds the solenoid Plenty to do on this new project Len

In the MGF, it is a black box behind the ECU bracket to which the ECU is attached. IT actually has 4 relays for 4 components. I recently replaced mine to solve a voltage seepage.

Search on part number YWB100970 to find the image.

On your question 'Is there a fuse which is in line with the lead to the starter solenoid ', there is a fusible link that is in the wire running from the alternator to the starter motor (part of the cable close to the starter motor). I replaced my fusible link with an inline 80 amp fuse as per the TF.

You should have battery voltage at the starter all the time, no matter if the car is running or not. The large brown wire (it might also be red) on the starter solenoid is always hot. If you do not have battery voltage at the starter, then it might be that the engine to body earth/ground is bad. This was the case on my wife's F and it caused many different starting issues: hard starting and low voltage at the starter.

I do have voltage on the main contacts to the starter ,but when the ign.key is turned, there is no power to the solenoid spade terminal. Is the starter relay, the one next to the ECU at the rear of the engine compartment .Am I correct in thinking the lead from the ignition switch when ign. is turned on,,goes to the relay, and the lead from the start contact on the lock also goes to a secondary contact on the relay So when the relay is energised by turning on the ign.then power can flow through the relay from the starter lead. Hope this makes sense Len

The picture below is from the fuse & relay thread, and as mentioned by Julian, it shows that the starter relay is part of the Engine Mangement Relay Module, YWB100970, which is located on the backside of the panel that holds the ECU.

I do not know where you looked but that what you described is for MG TF not MG F.

I see that other members already pointed you to my tnread on Fuses and Relays: MG F/TF Fuse & Relay Listing

Morning Im trying to find why the starter wont turn. I have voltage on the main lead going to it from the battery . Trying the starter on the bench its fine but I cannot get any voltage on the solenoid spade terminal Does anyone know which pin on which connector ,goes to the 30 amp fuse number 1 I now have the circuit diag.but the pins arnt numbered One of the pins goes to the solenoid spade terminal and one is input fro fuse 1 Very difficult to get into the pins as theyre in a small opening Len

The battery voltage is 12.35 volts so that`s ok Ignition lights up headlights work also , I ran the starter on the bench with the battery and it ran fine On the circuit the 12 volts pos goes to the starter relay, ,so I have to check its getting there I have taken starter relay out
