Got talking to a bloke at work who is in the MGCC, I just wondered how many F/TF owners are in either of the two main MG clubs?

I'm in the MGCC. Very friendly, has an F/TF register and regional reps an meets. Worth the subscription I think.

Used to be in the MGOC, but got fed up of the attitude. I am told it has changed, but since the magazine is a load of adverts for MGB parts I feel no compunction to re-join.

Ditto all that. I get a lot out of the Car Club (MGCC), but it's highly doubtful that I will be renewing my membership of the Moaners Club (MGOC) for the same reasons as you. In fairness though, a few vocal idiot members aside, it does seem to be moving in a much more positive direction with regard to the Zeds and F/TF (it knows it has to to survive), and Roger Parker's contributions to Enjoying MG alone just about justify a subscription. That said, the fact is that online forums like this one have long since rendered the Moaners Club obsolete for modern MG owners and you're better off giving the cost of a subscription to help run whichever forum gets most of your time.

I used to be in both the MGCC and MGOC. I originally joined the Owners Club so that I could save money on things like insurance - what a joke. Didn't take me long to realise that everything that they sold associated with Fs and TFs could be had cheaper elsewhere. Didn't renew my membership at Christmas, so I'm only a member of the MGCC now. Just a couple of weeks ago I was on the MGCC F Register's North Yorkshire Moors Run and during the course of the year I'll be going on lots more events up and down the country, including Silverstone in July. Made lots of friends (some of them on here) by being a member of the MGCC, so I'm just going to stick with them.

Im an MGOC member, joined when i got my F, enjoyed the cheap insurance till i changed to a TF and it went sky high, so went elsewhere. I havent ever bought anything from the shop cos its too expensive, my dealer always moan when i try to get discount with my membership card and my local MGOC branch never put anything in the mag so will probably not be renewing my membership

I took it one step further, joined the MGCC then joined the F Register commitee.

So I'm the Membership Secretary, and Phil is the MGCC F Register Midlands Rep. We enjoy the events and the community side of it all.

MGCC.
Worth it just for the 20mins around Silverstone every summer IMHO :naughty:

OH, and thanks to Tim Morris of SEF fame we've even had our pic in the mag

I'm in both the MGCC and MGOC. Enjoyed membership of both, let the MGOC lapse for a while but then rejoined to support their Snowdon Run - well recommended. The MGOC runs tend to be more mixed and expensive but more of the proceeds seem to make their way to worthy causes. The MGCC of cause has the dedicated MGF (/TF) register that puts on some great runs focused on the MGF (even enjoyed organising some myself, especially the Shropshire Run, although now taken a step back to focus on other priorities).

Regards
Andy.

I see you have retracted the first part of that post on another forum. Bad news about the lappery going and the event being open to all BMC cars.

Tim is a star and I think Silverstone will be replaced with Monaco this year :)

Yep, really going to have to think hard about whether to go or not this year. It's not just the loss of the parade laps but the whole thing is becoming something else now.

Unfortunately the closer we get to Sept, the more it looks like I won't be able to make Monaco :(

We will be going to Monaco (all others equal). Still deciding which way to go. I fancy the Route des Grandes Alpes and taking 3 or 5 days over it and motorway back. Still to look for hotels in the Alpes.

SWMBO fancies a bit of luxury when we get there - I've found a hotel very close to Casino that has apartments with private swimming pool for €1200 per night, parking €20 per night, breakfast from €25 per person.

Has anybody got more sensible ideas for hotels?

Oop seems like I have hijacked the thread. sorry.

We are looking at a couple of days down and back and a few days in Monaco area. May forego the delights of teh Alps for fast transit and spend more time on teh coast and trips to Italy. Depends on costs, HGF repair, and SO's college dates.
