That's made me think: what about lights? The brake lights on the towed vehicle won't work, so does it need a trailer board (lights and number plate), or is 'On Tow' sign enough?

And 750kg rules out most cars...
I have a trailer board which plugs into the tow bar socket ~ works the usual rear lights, indicators, brake and fogs.... trouble is on the smooth rear ends of most modern cars, how best to fit it. Bit fiddly. I usually put on the emergency lights on the towed car so that they flash away ( in recovery vehicle style ) whilst on the move ~ especially at night. I sometimes travel after midnight when towing as the traffic can be much lighter during those small hours so the journey is much less demanding for both car and driver. With that in mind, I always take a good battery in case the one on the towed car is not up to the job on a longish journey.

Couple years back when I bought my 1999 620ti ( from a Guy in Epsom) I turned up in my other 620ti and told the vendor I'd take it now.... he looked a little puzzled ... until I opened the bonnet and revealed the A-Frame ....

Have done this about twenty times over the past ten years using both Trailer and A-Frame.... I miss my trailer .....

I have relied on those folks at Swansea to send reminder for my various cars on SORN. ( I currently have three cars taxed ~ can only drive one) Swansea have faile dto do so on TWO Occasions ~ each costing me 40 quid for cars that have NOT seen any road use for over four years!!
ahaaa - now im not sure with all the DVLA/lisencing etc. but this sounds just like what happened with my car. Back in july I picked up a vauxhall astra cheap, my dad done the paper work. Anyway the car hasnt been used on the road since the day I bought it, the mot has run out as has the tax. A few weeks ago my dad recieved a letter from the DVLA basicly saying we might have been using the vehicle on the road, and that we have to pay a fine of £40 before a certain date otherwise it'll go up to £80, or prove them wrong.

Of course you cant get through to anyone on the phone, they dont want to know. So we had to print out pictures of the said vehicle clearly showing a engine bay thats not complete - so no way would the car run......also took a picture of the drive showing all of the cars and their registration numbers - so they can see that all of the cars are either road legal, or the rover - declared SORN, and attached the pictures to a letter my dad had wrote.

Got a letter back saying we would still have to pay the £40 fine. Cant argue with them.

So very typical ~ Yet another parasitical nice little earner ~ and the real crims get away scot free.

Public agencies are increasingly becoming ever more parasitical on the honest tax payers whose taxes keep them in cushioned against reality employment anyway. Witness the abuses with the Child Support Agency.

It WILL get worse irrespective of where you place your X come the next election.... twas always that way and no evidence that things will ever change.

My missus has put her plate on the car it has JES at the end. I want to change it so its got both of us on it.

If you go on the DVLA website, you can chose a plate and view it on a car i.e. on an MG ZS. Some of the best plates come up with 'to be auctioned soon' which basically means 'you cant afford it'.

Now being advertised for around £2.5K! - Only cost me £500 from the broker.

Got my eye on a new one, but the DVLA are asking £3.5K for it! :irked:

I know some of you would like the one I seen regularly in Gloucester. Its on a new shape basic fiesta. "H8 BMW"
Also a DR in Glos has GL05 DOC on her new golf GTi. Was in the local paper.
Hate BMW ... that really should not be on a Ford should it!..;)

Sorry H1 NCH is not available!

b000 upside is i know who owns it so just waiting for the old git to die.

owned by a guy called "David Hinchliffe" (strangely enough my name exactly too) who happens to own a chain of volvo dealerships. the plate was last seen on the front of his RR Phantom on netherhall road in doncaster outside the italian resteraunt.

now the guy is a real obnoxious **** too as i tried to talk to him as he got out of the car just wanted to say hi for name sake and compliment him on a lovely car (i do like the phantom) and he just told me to **** off!

Does anyone know who finally bought the number MG 1?
It was sold a couple of years ago on an MGB GT to a cherished numbers dealership, who went on to advertise it at about £250k.
I assume that they sold it, as it is no longer being advertised.
How many members here, have their own cherished number?
Believe it or not, someone has just paid a staggering £500k for a plate.
Check this thread to get an insight into the sort of money changing hands.

Reg plate MG1 was owned by Michael Gerson of Gerson Removals. He had it on his wife's runaround vehicle. I have no idea if he still owns the plate.
