.....Hurt the come back plan?
Oil $78 and heading + $100 a barrel won't help..........or will it?

Buy a F 150 Pick up truck.(Monster V8)......or a nice fuel shipping MG?

I think it is a good and valid point. There is more to the price of crude than the cost of filling a petrol tank. It affects the price of energy globally, the price of smelting aluminium for engine blocks and steel for body panels etc. The price of shipping completed cars and components from China to Longbridge. It affects the price of plastics or anything that is made from crude. An established manufacturer may be able to weather the storm, but re-establishing a company that has had the battering that MGR has in this economic climate?

Those are your words in quotes. It's crazy to you because you live in the UK. If you lived in the US a truck makes much more sense. I'm sure not too many think Hmmm? Pontiac GTO or F-150 lightning. I don't see the TF stealing too many sales from truck buyers and vice versa.

my apologies..

guess its just hard to understand the cult following behind pick ups.

even harder to understand,
especially when even from a pratical point of view i don't see how they can be anywhere near as good as the largest versions of the ford transit & its other manufacture counter parts. (with the exception of the 'New' transit thats front wheel drive and completly useless :D )

sry for being a d**k in my previous post.

If you drove the latest big trucks from Ford, Toyota, GM, Nissan you would be stunned by how refined they are. Remember most of the USA is not little country lanes. Most of our Freeways highways are huge, they are built with the U.S. in mind. In the UK these trucks would not be so attractive. However over here trucks make a lot of sense.

a few farmers around where i live have changed there Land rover defenders for these big nissan pickup 4x4's. I've had a look at them (all though not driven one) and i can see how they make driving about the place a much more friendly experience compared to the bare essentail frills of the work horse defender, but I still dont see why you'd buy one with out a pratical use for them.

Just like i'll never understand why parents pick there kids up from school in these wopping great Rang rovers and Discoverys. (and thats in 'this' coulntry).

The only reasion i can see for owning a FREELANDER/RANGEROVER or DISCOVERY when you live in town is so that if/when your in an accident you kill the people in the car that hit you instead. :(

Speed bumps. That's why everybody in town drives an off-roader. Because of the ground clearance.

If they want to get rid of the 4x4s they have to get rid of the speed bumps.

It really is that reason, to a large extent, isn't it? I only realised the other day when I saw a Range Rover go straight over a series of speed bumps, and over the middle of a raised mini-roundabout, without changing speed at all. The level of the body was barely affected: all in all it must make for a lot more pleasant ride than a normal car in today's urban badlands, and I guess I don't blame people for that choice, in a way.

Whereas I was forced down to 15 mph to go over some speed bumps in my Scimitar the other day, and still the differential scraped the top of one of them. The lane they were on had a lot of, er, more upmarket houses, and every single one had some kind of 4WD vehicle.

The escalating cycle of "control measure - circumvention - bigger control measure - bigger circumvention" is just getting out of hand!
