Can anybody throw me a lifeline??? As per my previous thread I have a low rumbling in my gearbox. Ok diff bearings main suspect !! Right, I have today been quoted £845 + vat for a recon unit, £2k :guns3: yes £2000 to have my box stripped and rebuilt, £180 + vat for removal and diagnosis and £345 + vat for diff bearings only.:taz: :***: So ok Rovers and spares are rare:minxy: gearbox's are specialised and labours not cheap and yes I do live in the South East Oh and yes mine has a limited slip diff which is very complex??? But I saw the advert saying 620 box £475 fitted (They want £845) can anyone suggest the caring mechanic who can offer some TLC to my box at a realistic level I don't mind travelling or can someone tell me where to get a box at a reasonable price. Please help don't let another Ti go to her makers.

There are a few people out there who can sort out new bearings for you. They aren't that difficult to do, and aren't really any more complex to work on than normal boxes. I think someone on rovertech used to offer the service at a good price.

Gearbox rebuild costs: -

Full strip down, re-shim, and rebuild fee - £140

Non 'U' gearbox bearing set - £140 (all steel cage)

'U' Gearbox full bearing set - £170 (one more bearing than a non 'u' box)

Look for 'U' in the first 4/5 letter/numbers on your gearbox code sticker, found on bellhousing.

Please not that a couple of the bearings on a 'U' rated gearbox are not available in steel cage but we will source the uprated nylon cage bearings to fit (a steel cage version is simply not available, at all).

Torco MTF gearbox oil - 1 Litre - £9 (very highly recommended)

Up Rated Quaife Diff - £550
Up Rated Gripper Diff - £550 (adjustable preload)

If you are unaware of your gearbox code, this can only be done when box is stripped down. We will confirm once stripped down.
Any other parts required would depend on what may have broken in your box.
Additional parts can be sourced from Rover by us or by you, if you prefer.

thanks for the info will sort out when I can get this done. How can charges be so different?? the two places I quoted are meant to be genuine gearbox places with reasonable charges and both came recommended???.
