Rods were only supplied by Rover as piston/rod assemblies due to the damage caused when removing the old pistons.

 

Thanks. I was supplied a piston set from a company called Trechi, but it didn't include con rods!? The mechanic working on my car said they come with the MG-Rover supplied parts. Still looking...

 

Good luck with the search. As I said, rods were generally only available ready assembled. Don't get tricked into buying 2nd hand ones because the small end eye of the rod will probably be stretched and the pin can then move when the engine runs. New pin should be fitted with the small end heated to the point at which it starts to show the tempering colours. It will all need properly supporting due to the draw angle on the inside of the piston bosses. Used rods can be reclaimed by sleeving or converting to floating pins.

 

It is looking like I'm getting a set that are attached to some 160PS VVC pistons. Fingers crossed, thanks for your advice!

 

I have some used good ones from a 143vvc if interested

The 160 ones would be a better buy though
