Just had to get as pair of tyres as had a slow puncture on one of my toyos and as it was getting near to wear indicators thought may as well replace now (kept the other as a spare still legal but not much left)

Anyway the garage noticed the michellin pilot sport on the back were worn on inside down past wear indicators.

Car has now done 62509 miles
Mich Pilot sports were fitted 13/12 - 51126 miles (got 11,383 out of them)
Toyo TR1 were fitted 14/12/06 - 51150 miles (got 11,359 out of them)

So bearing in mind toyos were still legal they have lasted better than the michellins (have swopped from front to back during last 8 months) paid ÂŁ220 for the toyos and ÂŁ300 for the michellin last time so seems pointless paying over the top for a so called premium brand.

Either way isnt great milage, but with contis fitted wasnt getting any better milage.

Do people rate Avon ZZ3 for milage and grip?

How about budget stuff like maxxis, nankang, kumho etc?

(need to replace michellin asap but struggling to get another pair of toyos, the supplier garage uses is waiting for them to clear customs so upto a week wait)

Think some of the budget brands have a stigma about safety etc attached but all have to meet a certain speed rating and standard, plus its a cdti not a 260.

Toyos are classed as cheap budget by kwikfit and a like but stick like ship to a blanket, and as others have said they are a decent tyre for the money. Shame they arnt stocked by more places.

Emps would you say the ZZ3s wear any better than Toyos as both similar price (zz3s about ÂŁ18 more for a pair)

at the moment its hard to tell, as i've not had either sets on long enough to know (i sold the car with the toyos on after a few thousand mile) and i've yet to do 2000 miles in my new one.

One thing is though the ZZ3's are very loud - not sure if thats because they are 205/40/17 compared to the 185/55/15's toyo's

Hi,

I have avon zz3 215s on 16" alloys on my 2.5 v6 75 previously had Mich pilots on and I reckon to get 20K from the avons and they are quieter than the Mich's where on mine, will be using them all the time now, have them on the wifes 45 too. ÂŁ80 a corner fitted from tyre shopper.

Didn't rate the Mich's at all compared.

Im trying some lesser brand tyres now having got roughly the same as you from my Michelin and about the same from my Dunlop which Ill be replacing very shortly!

Decided to try some Pneumant PN950 Tritec in 235/40/18 at ÂŁ68.00 each from MYTyres plus ÂŁ8.50 to have them fitted at the local tyre fitters!

Put them on the back on Monday and so far Im impressed!

Checked out the independant reviews before deciding and they score pretty much the same as the premium brands. Will let interested people know how they perform but hey at ÂŁ68 each its gotta be worth a try?!

What do people think of dunlop sp9000 can get them for ÂŁ94.29 each which is kumho / nangkang kind of money.

Am sure i had a pair on soon after getting the car but cant remember if they were decent grip and wear, not too bothered about road noise as exhaust and the wireless will drown that out no doubt :D

Struggling to get another pair of toyos at the moment.

My CDT had Dunlop SPs fitted when I got the car. I find them noisy, and I remember an old post, from RRon I think, who said that SPs were the noisiest tyre for this car.

I am not a sporty driver keen on extracting the maximum performance from the car. I'm more interested in it performing like a small limo, which means gentle quiet wafting along, so noise is important to me. What do you think are the quietest tyre for this car?

I've just replaced all four Michelin Pliot sports (at 2 mm not mimimum legal) on my ZT-T CDTi (225/45ZR18) and got just about 14,000 miles out of them. This was rather disappointing as they had followed a set of Conti Sports which I had changed at 15,000 (Although I only had the car for the last 2,000 of those. It might just have been used on long / motorway joureys previously.) and was told that the Michelins should last ~25%-33% longer despite costing more and so work out cheaper (ÂŁ173 ea then, but cheaper now, vs. ÂŁ140 for the Contis.). I now have Kumhos on (ÂŁ99 ea) although I don't expect them to last as long.

As an aside, I had considered the Avon ZZ3s since anecdotal evidence on the forum suggested them to be a good compromise between the main brands on the basis of mileage, noise & cost whilst still having very good good grip. However, I was not able to source them locally and one dealer was quite dismissive of them. (As a brand I rate their motorcycle tyres and have always understood their car tyres to have good grip, if not the best, and good behaviour in the transition betwen dry & wet road especially. They were used by RR, Astons & Bristols.)

Subjectively, the Kumho's are definitely the quietest, their handling is a bit better than the Continentals (It doesn't squirm at the back end in slow tight corners (attributed to sidewall flex & later cured by adding 2 psi to the rears) but are not as positive / sharp as the Michelins on the turn in. The Michelins were the noisiest & highest grip.

On both occasions all four tyres wore out at the same time which, whilst being a big hit on the wallet at once, has allowed me to get a reasonable discount each time.

I hope this helps,
Kearton
