So far we've had one morning of bad black ice, slight uphil gradient and it was spinning in 4th. Now it's just windy and rainy. As for preparation in the boot I have my old rigger boots, big coat, hat and gloves, just need to buy some de-icer and put a shovel in the boot. Job done!

My winter prep was to put the ZR away and buy a cheap runabout. I've just put winter steels on the runabout and a few service items. New oil, track rod ends and stuff.

The Zed can stay away from the from the gritters and general winter misery thank you.

changed my coolant, winter strength screenwash, take a flask of tea to work, big coat in the boot

just need a new scraper because i broke it today and some de icer, and a smear of silicone grease on the door seals to prevent them sticking when it freezes

Agree. Seems these idiots think because they have 4 wheel drive they are totally invulnerable.. Most of the accidents these fools have are caused by them trying to a) show off to other 'lesser' motorists, or b) driving in the false security beyond their means, and usually these vehicles are pretty bulky making a big mess of anything they hit. I can handle driving in adverse conditions and know my limitations, its these morons that worry me more than the weather this time of year...

Will be my first proper Winter driving in snow. Didn't get much of a chance last year before my head gasket went.

Thinking about it, it was probably beneficial to me. Would have probably have written my car off last winter had I not had HGF. The route I was taking on a daily basis would have at least one car in a collision with a lamp post, other car or stationary object on a daily basis while it was snowing... and I had dreadful budget tyres on steelies last year which couldn't even grip wet tarmac - let alone snow and ice.

Edit: I'm wondering how my Avon ZZ3's are going to handle the snow, they've been great in all conditions since I've got them but not tried snow or ice with them yet. However, my dad has them on the ZT-T too but had a few moments in last years snow where he struggled out from the bottom of a 'slope' (we don't get anything more than slopes in flat Suffolk).

but seriously the main thing I have learned after over 20 years of driving, is just be more aware of whats happenning around you, dont drive too fast and know everything around you, saves mistakes and also saves killing your beloved rover :)

Cayenne's aren't half bad in snow with a decent driver. Early on last year when the snow was only a foot deep and everyone else was stuck, my neighbour hopped in his cayenne, straight up the road, up a hill and into town without any struggle, he came back in one piece too.
