KV6 common problems?

Hi All,

I've come across a 2001 V6 ZS, bodywork and interior is in good nick, but it's advertised as 'Engine problems'. It's in a scarp yard so I'm presuming it won't start.

I'm just wondering, what are the common problems on these? do they suffer the usual HGF?

The cars only £450 and I'm looking for something with engine problems that I could fix myself. Even if I have to rebuild the engine it would be a good project.

Is it worth buying? What would likely be the resale value? I checked ebay and I've not really come across anything less than £1,000. Surely even if I replaced the engine I'd still be quids in?

Any advise

hgf is rare in the the kv6 but it does happen, you are looking at £500 min to have the cambelts done there are 3 unless you are doing them yourself with engine out !! and water pump is a must with the belt change, inlet manifolds rattle with the internal arm for opening the butterflies comes detached, the vis motors that controll said arms are made from chocolate but once all done WHAT A MOTOR THEY ARE !!

bobadob summed it up nicely :).. inlet manifold rattle, VIS motors, cambelts. The clutch hydraulics (especially slave cylinder braket) is another weak point, unless uprated Sheddist kit is fitted.

"Engine problems" could be anything really from a rattly engine to the big end bearing or worse ;) so best call or go take a look and find out what's wrong before making a decision.

Sounds like a nice project if the engine can be fixed cheaply. Wheeler Dealers in action...

Right, too late, I've bought it.

The engine runs but rattles and knocks. Any ideas?

Even if I've got to remove the engine and rebuild it, it'll be a nice project, although probably a little bit more complex than I would of likes for my first car like this.

Try get a video up of the knocking and maybe someone could help diagnose. There's a few possibilities for the rattle I think. Knocking does not sound good though! How many miles on it?

Either way, engine rebuild is a nice project, great way to learn not to mention the satisfaction once it's running smoothly :)
