What 1.4 is it...if it's the lower powered version then just a new thottle body will make a huge differenece.

Probably best asking the gurus in the 25/200/ZR sections
I'm not sure about the 1.6 inlet manifold, but I have a 1.4 ZR and have done the following:
BMC Closed induction
52mm Throttle body
Cat back exhaust

These have sqeezed a few extra horses and feels loads better to drive, it pulls a lot better in the lower revs.
As far as I know there never was a 1.6 ZR, but the standard upgrades would be induction kit and sports exhaust. If you want to really go for it then cams etc but bear in mind if you factored in the cost of induction kit, exhaust and cams you could probably get a reasonable mileage 1.8 K series from a breaker. That would give you more bhp and torque than all of those upgrades.
To start with, there is no 1.6 ZR ;)

The manifolds on all of the non VVC 25 / ZR cars are the same and the VVC one will do nothing performance wise on the 1.4.

As mentioned, if you have the restricted version of the 25 changing the throttle body and throttle cable will make a significant difference.

If it is the unrestricted version then nothing is going to make much difference without major investment.
What Stu said is right.

Get a decent Air Filter and Exhaust system, both will come to £300-400 for 5-10bhp.

You're looking thousands of pounds to get more, my 1.4 ZR Rally car is 150BHP, and has had about £3000 spent on the Engine
Don't forget to tell your insurance company about all your mods
or even consider a swap as after you hit about £2000 it becomes very aparant that the money would of been better spend swapping

Do you think it'd be worth it to make a custom intake manifold and fit individual throttle bodies from a CBR 1000? Because I reckon it'd not be very expensive barring the fabrication
