Wow, I may be wrong, but isn't this the first significant overseas investment by a British automaker*, in about 30-40 years? A definate sign that JLR is serious about competing on a global scale.


*even if the investment funds are channeled from the Indian parent company to the British subsidiary then back to India via the British subsidiary's Indian venture, globalization FTW.

 

Yes and when was the last time a 'British' car company made a billion pounds?

 

Surely its LR making billions not Jag?

Once the XF 2.2 Diesel comes on board then perhaps they might have a realistic prospect but until the new X type appears they will have nothing other than niche products and not serious money earners.

 

Agreed but headlines are bound to help Jag.

JLR Wolverhampton plant to create 1,000 jobs

Jaguar Land Rover has unveiled plans to build an 800,000 sq ft engine plant at the i54 business park in Wolverhampton.

Reports suggest the new site could create up to 1,000 jobs in the plant itself and through the supply chain.

The major boost for the region's manufacturing sector comes just weeks after the company revealed it had passed the £1bn profit barrier in its year-end results.

At the time, JLR's chief executive officer Ralf Speth, said: "The announcement of Jaguar Land Rover’s financial highlights is a very positive indicator for our business and reflects consumer confidence in our brands and the continued efforts of our entire Jaguar Land Rover workforce.

"This is a solid performance but we must remain focused on delivering a strong, sustainable business model for the future.

"To that end, we have committed more than £1bn a year over the next five years to the creation of new and exciting products which will strengthen Jaguar Land Rover’s position in the global marketplace."

Absolutely brilliant. That's fantastic news. I have great affection for the city and this is the sort of boost it needs. Well done to JLR for sticking with the West Mids and to whoever made the deal attractive to them.
