Indeed its true. The 103PS only makes 127NM of torque. The 8V might lack PS but has plenty of torque.

proberly the ristriction, not uncommon for manufacturers to downtune engines. its a whole thing of' i've got a 16v' makes it seem better when that isnt always the case

 

the 8v will be using everything it has, but the 16v will be de-tuned... you can't de-tune an engine without losing a few torques.

 

I doubt it. If you look at all the petrol K range there quite low on the old torque front.

1.4 makes 123NM at 4500rpm,
1.6 makes 138nm at 4500rpm,
1.8 makes 160nm at 2750rpm and the 2.0 v6 makes 185nw at 4000rpm.

The 8V makes 117nm at 4200rpm.

 

When I was buying a new 25 in 2000 I was going for the iL version, they came as a 84PS or 103PS I chose the 84 on price.

According to Parkers:

1.4 iL (84ps) 3d Original Price £10,640
1.4 iL (103ps) 3d Original Price £11,440

It was only much later that people discovered the only difference was a restricted throttle body and a different cable all for the rather sumley £800 price difference !

 

Snag with Rovers is nobody paid list price and 95% of them wear either ex Rover cars or dealer bought stock. There was very few people who sat at the computer and ordered the car from scratch.

Thats for the 103PS version. I have not got the 84PS version to hand but can get it.

The 1.1 16v has 95NM at 5000rpm,

1.4 84PS has 110NW at 4500rpm.

In contrast the 2.0 diesel has 260NM at 2000RPM on the 113PS model.
