Is the headlamp washer bumper a different part number?

Hi,
I had a crash in my Rover 75 and need to replace the bumper. I found a new bumper in the same colour in very good condition which doesn't need painting but it doesn't have holes for the headlamp washers.
Do I cut the holes in the bumper or should I go look for a bumper with headlamp washer spaces pre-cut?
There are no guide marks on the inside of the bumper to serve as a template for cutting. I could cut to size but obviously I don't want to possibly ruin the bumper and then find I can't bodge a good repair?
Can anyone guide me on this?
The car's front end is dis-assembled now awaiting repair and not that much damage has been done to the car although it did look a real mess before I took the broken parts off.
Regards,
Geoff.

There is no separate bumper for models with OEM HIDs. I believe all bumpers are pre-marked for cutting out the washer jet locations. Just as all rear bumpers are marked with the cutting positions for fitting the reversing sensors. Here's Rimmer's facelift bumper listing. You'll see that there are minor variations for certain engine types, but not for the lamp washers.

This also applies to Mark 1 bumpers for cars factory fitted with HIDs.

HID? Does that mean Xenons?
I don't have uprated lights, just the standard ones with Washers.
It is a 2000 Cowley built car.
Does the same apply? I can't say I saw the outlines for cutting on the inside of the bumper when I looked.
Nice to know about the rear bumper.
HIDs (High Energy Discharge) lamps are called 'Xenon' lamps in the handbook. They are an electric arc/plasma system quite different from conventional filament bulbs. If you have OEM lamp washers, I'd have expected to find OEM HIDs, not 'ordinary' bulb/reflector type headlamps. Whatever, the same applies as far as bumpers are concerned. I guess drilling a small hole for the washer jets is rather trivial and doen't warrant guide lines. It's pretty obvious where they go, especially if you have an original drilled bumper to compare.

Are you sure they are OEM? The way to confirm is whether there's also self-levelling suspension. Washers and levelling are the standard fixtures for OEM HIDs.

I appear to have a "Heated washer pack" option as opposed to HIDs which includes Heated washer jets and Headlamp power wash.
This option pack is advertised in my Irish "Design your own Rover 75" options brochure.
Having taken off my bent bonnet I can see that the washers are heated which is pretty cool but it did cause me a lot more hassle when removing the bonnet.
the washers just unplug fron the harness no hassel

bumpers are all same just need drilling

Mine came with headlight washer jets without HID lights

HID = High Intensity Discharge.

Headlamp washers were an option regardless of which headlamp type was fitted, but was ALWAYS fitted with Xenon lamp units to meet the type approval laws.

HID & Xenon lamps are the same thing, just different terminology.

I recently retro-fitted OEM headlamp washers to my 75. Once you take the bumper off, you will see the outline of the washer jets on the underside of the panel. I used a Dremel to cut out the sections with great ease!

retro fit headlamp washers

Hello James,
How easy was it to fit your headlamp washers..I heard it is a bit of a nightmare; correct washer res and pump and then another switch to get them to work?

I've got the washers and hoses.

Regards
Paul

Oh also I have a spare front bumper with washers cut outs but its in primrose yellow!! You have it for beer money!

Just a guess this, might well be talking through my ...

I would have thought that if the correct oem kit was retrofitted they could be made to work oem, ie: every five times the washers are used, via T4.

Jimbo is spot on.....

With another members valued help, he sourced all the parts and I assisted in the fitting......the wiring loom was already there on my 75. The washers are activated normally by using the windscreen washers. No extra switch required, but a testbook session to enable them was required.
The normal reservoir is fine, the cutout needed is marked/outlined in a similar way to the bumper cutouts. You will need the hi pressure pump though.......the one Corin found had BMW markings on it............
sounds not so bad

Hello,
I thought the headlamp washers needed an additional pump from the res.

As I said I have the hoses and the washer jets...might be do able then!!

Cheers
Paul
