My dad had a problem with his Mazda, some git speeding around the corner where they live, ran into the wing and doors-both doors caved in slight dint to the sill and the wing kaput. Looking at it it was repairable...the insurance company wrote it off as uneconomical to repair. I found that that it's cheaper to write off than repair new cars :-(

In your case it will more than likely be a write off...sorry mate. Glad that you're okay though!

had the insurance assesor round today he reckons ÂŁ3100 to repair. no structual damage just panels and front bulkhead (slam panel and headlight surround) need replacing. The ins company have said they will pay out either the valuation price in full or the valuation price minus the salvage value and i keep the car.
I went on the net last night and can get all the parts i need for ÂŁ574 just need to have them painted and the bulkhead welded on.

What do you guys rekon get rid or keep the car as ive just spent ÂŁ900 on valves h/g exhaust and other bits.

Also any one know the value of an 02 zr with 77000miles

If they offer a decent price then I would keep it and fix it. If you were fancying a change beforehand though then maybe now you have an excuse.

I assume you mean the slam panel rather than the bulkhead between the engine bay and cabin that needs welding. It wont be a big job or cost too much if you find a good backstreet welder.

Notice you live in Stockton area - I can recommend a good bodyshop from personal experience for the respray if you dont have one lined up, and possibly a garage that might weld for you as well if its driveable.

Here is a listing of inurance catogories:

Category A: Beyond repair vehicle must be crushed
Category B: vehicles body must be crushed, may be used for supplying some replacement parts
Category C: vehicle has been extensively damaged and repaired
Category D: Vehicle has been damaged, insurer decided not to repair

Would have thought that yours would come into cat D.

What model ZR is it?

A 1.4 3 door with avergae milage I.E 60,000 is approx ÂŁ1800 poor condition to ÂŁ2800 for a good example. 5 door a tad less.

I was reading this and thought there ain't something right there, i thibk when you say "bulkhead" you actualy mean "front valance". The bulkhead is beween the engine and the passenger compartment.
Yeah, I was thinking that, if your bulkhead was buckled then the car would be a total write off as for that damage the front end/side would be totalled.
The impact would be high and you would be seriously injured or killed, they would also be severe damage to the rest of the frame.

Fix it mate, just keep looking arround for the parts/panels, go second hand to save pennys too, you never know, might get them in the same colour too, then once you have them, get some quotes in !!!

Its worth fixing mate as you have had work done on it so you know the HG can be trusted, buying another throws that out the window !!!

If it makes you feel any better i'm getting my 25 resprayed this year, its not worth F all, has 90k on it and its only a 1.4, but that does not bother me, its a great car and I have spent a good bit of coin on the inteior, ICE and mainly SERVICING the bugger !!!
