Insurance Advice - Will they try and write it off?

A stupid woman reversed into me this morning cracking my front bumper and left paint flaking off... Seeing as sunspot is a re-spray only colour the whole car will need to be done to avoid the 'patchwork quilt' look that I'm not so fond of :eyes:

I'm not at fault (have independant witnesses who also agree with this) so have every intention of claiming off other parties insurance, but what's the likelyhood that they will attempt to have my car written off rather than repaired? I know for a fact that the other party will fight this as they were convinced at the time that it was my fault, so expecting a bit of a battle :(

With it being BH weekend I won't be able to get in touch with insurance until Tues so would appreciate any advice as I've never had to make a claim (my fault or otherwise) before.

Personally my stance would be that the other person WILL pay whatever it costs to put my car right. I don't care what the insurance say, that person has damaged your car, they better start talking nice to the insurance otherwise they will be sued for the difference in cost.
Hope you get it sorted without too much fuss.

Thanks guys, I'm not feeling the love for my car too much these days (not the cars fault!) but a total re-spray might cheer me up a bit

I hope its a quick and clean claim as I'm supposed to going to France in it in a month or so, but I have a feeling there is no such thing :eyes:

The damage doesn't look *that* bad at all, it was a <5mph accident and no damage to lights etc, it's just hairline cracks and flaky paint but once the flaky paint falls off it'll look like crap.

Yep 5 times the spoiler was done and it still doesn't match  The quad lights are a lot better than the spoiler though, but still not 100% perfect match.

I think I'd be looking at ÂŁ1500/2000ish for a full re-spray, but looking at values on Auto Trader mine might be (on a good day!) somewhere to the value of ÂŁ3500(ish) so it's less % of the value than I thought so who knows :dunno:

Some pics of the damage - it really doesn't look *that* bad at all, if I gave it a wash and removed some of the road-kill it might look better but some of the paint is very loose and could fall off at any moment... Part of me wishes the woman was going a bit quicker so as it made it look a lot more worthy of a costly claim..

I've no idea whether sunspot can be blended in the same way as celestial blue due to the slight flip aspect, but I've seen bittersweet matched and blended perfectly so it is a possibility depending on the sprayer.

Not necessarily 3k upwards - I think it'll depend on where it gets done though. Dr Dial reckoned a ballpark figure would be 1500-2000 when I was talking to him a few weeks back.

Ok so now the dust has had time to settle I've realised I could be better off if they do write it off and I buy it back. The cat D/C whatever (never know which is which :eyes:) really wouldn't concern me in the slightest as I have no intention of ever selling the car so either way (re-spray or cash settlement) I'll be happy (so long as it doesn't bugger up my trip to France next month in it that is!). But I won't be accepting a mis-match if they do want to try that first (which I suspect they will)...

Try again, not sure what happend to my last attempt. Anyhoo,
Sorry to hear about the bump. All bodywork is expensive. I've just been quoted ÂŁ450-ÂŁ500 for fairly minor rear bumper, door and cill damage, and my TF is just a metallic paint. I'd hate to think how much a full respray in Suspot would be.
Of course if you look on the bright side you could respray it in a decent colour for less than just doing the bumper in sunspot :dddc:

on a totally off the subject reply I was down in South Wales in the TF about a week ago took step daughter back to Uni in Caerleon 230 miles all the way with the roof down :) surprisingly got most of her junk and her Mac (yep she's one of those Apple snobs!) in the boot had to resort to the boot rack for the overflow though.......luckily I didn't get hit in any car parks will have to watch out next time!

Sorry to hear your bad news Jan. :sad3:

I am afraid that I tend to agree with Kenny in that they will not offer a complete respray just a panel repair, but if it goes to a good repairer I feel that all will be well, its just the problem of finding a good repairer.....

Good luck and roll on Tuesday.

BTW did you get pics of the other car?

No I didn't think to at the time :( I've got their address though so could always do a drive-by and see if the car is parked outside

Just checked google maps and looks like it's all outside communal parking so chances are it should be there. People might see me though and think I'm doing something dodgy :err:

Talking of dodgy.. my neck and shoulder are killing me :tic: I wonder if I could get away with a 'no blame no claim' payout as well

jan just got my f back from the bodyshop last week after someone ran into the back of me needed new bumper new back box and heat sheild one new back light various bolts and hooks and back end resprayed total ÂŁ2150 (asked woman at reception of bodyshop) + 28xÂŁ80 hire car (ÂŁ2240)
total=ÂŁ4390 car is 99 reg vvc only thing was that other party admited responsibility. alan

Well the third parties insurance rang me admitting full liability and have arranged to get the car fixed and they've provided me with a Focus ST as a courtesey car for the duration so I'm rather pleased about that :D

It's off today to the body shop - will wait with baited breath to hear what they say about the matching aspect...

It wont get wrote off 100% sure.

As someone said earlier.with a bit of knowhow AND the car present to work out the amounts of each layer etc etc to match it's doable.

The respray only myth is a get out clause type thing for paint companies and the like because so much of the result relys on the way it is done.

If it was the back I would have had to hunt the culprit down for damaging the quads and spray them.

Hope it all works out well :)

Still no news :(

The garage said they are still waiting for authorisation so I rang the insurance co to push them along a bit only to be told that they authorised the repairs last Friday... Back on the phone to the garage and they said although the repairs have been authorised, the paint work hasn't as yet. On the phone once again to the insurance co but they have been unable to contact their engineer who will also need to inspect the car to agree to the paint work, so it's be at least Monday now before their engineer inspects it so it's even more waiting :tapfoot:

The novelty of having a practicle car I can get both kids in has worn off now and I'm really starting to miss the TF even though it's only been gone a week :whinge:
