hi people checked my vis valves last week i took of the vis valve to the left and it was dripping with oil but the one to the right was fine so i open`d the one with the oil in it and well i think i cleand it[if it make vis valve better i dont no]so then put oil catch tank in[think its to late tho]but in the last week there has not been one drop of oil caught in the oil catch tank and i have clear pipes there still clean is there any other way oil can get in the inlet manifold[vis valves]im baffeld just dont want to go buy new inlet manifold and vis valves if this problom happens again becose there not exactilly cheap.

I guess for us that have fitted oil catch tanks, thats the $64,000 question, some of us have tapped into the larger breather pipe and others into the smaller pipe all with varying results.
Personally I think the VIS clogging up is more to do with condensation in the crankcase and the intake, then mixing with oil over time which creates a sludge which gets cooked onto the moving parts in the intake and jams things up.
Ive found since using fully synthetic oil things seem reasonably clean in the intake.I also reckon the removal of the VIS motors once a year and a clean the intake mechanisms with throttle body cleaner is a good bet also.
Most of the VIS issues seem to be resolved by checking the VIS motors and repairing them,so before you go and spend a fortune on a new intake manifold check the VIS motors first.

I always used fully synthetic in my 45V6 and never had any vis valve problems in 80000 miles
My ZS runs fully synth and my catch tank does receive residue, which would otherwise contaminate my plenum and vis valves. There is some debate whether it does anything at all, but for what I have seen and done I wouldn't say it is a waste at all. Mine has covered just under 80k miles and several track days, I'm on plenum #2 and the original vis valves of which I repair as and when required.

Why not post a picture up of the install, just to make sure the installation is similar.
ok some good ideas there so which pipes are better to use for the oil catch tank the smaller one or the bigger one?i have it in the smaller one.would it make any diffrence if you had an oil catch tank for each pipe or is that a waste time and money.you say use throttle body cleaner were abouts do you put it [through the inlet manifold itself via vis motor?] can you buy vis motor seperate if so were and how much if not how do you clean your own i found it very difficault to clean there was that much oil in it and in gaps i couldnt get to.would like to put picture but dont no how to put them on this forum
servicing

see mines only done 38.000 miles but when brought it the man said it never been serviced and its 2001.ideas for servicing it myself oil,oil filter, air filter, could i change spark plugs myself some one said get gerage to do it as its difficault to get to the 3 spark plug at the back is this true always done my own but not on v6.cant really think of anything else for service.

A post earlier this year may be of interest to you:-

That was my contribution, the rest of the thread was interesting too.

Re the VIS motors,a member (EDD I think?) has an excellent post on how to repair the VIS.
Re the breather pipe to the oil catch tank,as mentioned ,some people seem to get results, others not, some use the larger pipe, other the small one.
From what I gather the larger pipe extracts crankcase fumes when idling, the smaller one when driving.
Throttle body cleaner, only use a type that does not react or cause any issues with any of the engines sensors.
I remove the VIS motors (4 screws) which allows access to the internal butterflies and mechanism,I get a couple of the small plastic attachment tubes you get with the can and join them so I have an extra long extension and spray the cleaner inside the intake manifold.
Again, the best fix seems to actually repair /replace the VIS motors.
I think the rear VIS gives you a kick in at about 2500rpm and the front one should kick in about 3000rpm.

thankyou for your reply so can you buy them new[do you no best place]so when you put in the throttle body cleaner do you just leave it in there and it does its job.which throttle body cleaner would you addvice is best[mgzs] also which vis moter should you put it throw[when your looking at the engine]the top one to the left or bottom one to the right]do you think it would be worth putting 2 oil catch tanks in sorry askin you lods questons just good to get other pepels views thankyou ror your time mate.dean
