I need new tyres

My 1.6 25 came factory fitted with P6000 tyres, which work really well on this car, surprisingly. I've put other tyres on, and always been disappointed, and always gone back to P6000s

Pirelli, in their wisdom, have stopped this tyre, which leaves me at a loss as to what to put on.

Mrs TheBoy drives a little like Miss Daisy, but I tend to be quite enthusiastic behind the wheel.

I know its subjective, but what do you all use, what is your driving style, what are your tyre demands (performance, durability, price, noise etc), and how do you rate your choice?

Kumho's are a decent price, their Ecsta Spts are rated AA for traction. Or try Lassa tyres (if anyone round you does them), their Impetus range are rated A for traction, and do everything I want to do just fine. Having said that, I'll be going to Kumho's (on my fronts) when they need changing in a month or so, as the prices as so close anyway.

On other cars - I do a lot of work on big Vauxhalls - I have found the KU31s to not give much feedback. They grip OK, but when you find the limit, let go with little warning. Do you find same on the little Rover?

I was toying with Toyos Proxies, heard they tend to work well on small cars like MX5 etc, but every car is different

Uniroyal rainsport 2

Have got Uniroyal Rainsport 2's on mine having originally had GY Eagle F1's. Can't recommend the Rsports enough. Very very good tyres. Grip is great wet and dry, wear rate seems to be very reasonable too. and the best part is compared to the F1's they are cheaper. ÂŁ88 vs ~ÂŁ120 each fitted at blackcircles for my 25GTI. (205/45/R16 IIRC)

Cheaper elsewhere of course but Black circles was just an easy place to grab a comparison

Edit: On a side note, I've had p6000's in the past and hated them to the point I replaced them long before they were due! I'm very surprised to hear they are your preference. I always found them to be completely hopeless in the wet!

Yeah, I wouldn't normally put P6000's on a skateboard, had many previous bad experiences with them on my Astra GTE and wedgy 216. But on the 25, both Mrs TheBoy and I love them. Tried GY F1s and GY NCT on the front before, and it really sodded up its ability to do corners.

Wonder if suspension (presumably GTi is stiffer) makes a difference, or if 205 tyres are over tyreing the chassis for styling purposes. Or if its purely driving style, and/or the confidence gained from what-you-know.

I'd stick another set of P6000s on tomorrow, if I could get them. Yet I sure as hell wouldn't put them on my Omegas, ever!

I *think* the suspension on all the 25's is the same (taken from the 200vi?) - I could be wrong on that one though.

Either way, I would have to say give the Rain Sports a go-

Defiantly prefer them to the F1's which I feel are a little overrated, and I've got far more confidence in these than I did with my under-steer happy Ibiza GTI on conti premium contact's.

My vi is modded with a Quaife atb diff and has been lowered so I have thrown it about a bit round back roads and the roundabouts in Milton Keynes en route to my mates place. The Toyo's I have are 205/50/15" and stick very well.

I haven't done a huge mileage on them (probably 3-4k miles) as I have bought a replacement everyday motor so my vi is for sale.

I would recomend uniroyal rain sports 2 to.makes sure it is the rain sport to because they do a few patters and there the best ones.iv had them on two cars and they stick to the road like glue. Only down side is there soft so they wear out quicker than others but it didnt deture me.
Bridge stone are proberly the best on the market

yokohama parada spec 2's for me all round...

1. they are freaking sexy looking.
2. they stick like HELL in the dry.
3. not great in wet but not too bad... still better than budget tyres haha
4. can get them fairly cheap, less that ÂŁ60 a tyre

Driving style can be a bit.. aggressive, but that's the engine fault... lmao it begs for it.

For good quality sport tyres the Yoko Parada Spec 2's, but they will wear fairly quickly. Toyo's are good grip wise but unfortunately the build quality is awful.

For wet weather Rainsports or Vredestein and all rounders Falken FK452's.

Have driven several 200's/25/ZR's on various Khumo's and wouldn't ever use them. They were all very poor at giving feedback and snapped when pushed rather than gave a gradual loss of grip. Much better tyres above for the same money.

Haven't used the P6000's for years, but had them on the original 15's for the Coupe and they were reasonable. The ones above will be be comparable or better.

Goodyear Eagles are very long lasting and give reasonable grip, but again save the money and get one of the alternatives.

my mum used p6000's on her peugeot (fitted from factory) and mum liked them as they gripped enough for her driving style and lasted a rediculously long time.

i've got toyo proxes T1-R on mine (do not get one on your spare... unless you carry a spare for each side) and i haven't found a limit to the grip yet, my little 1.4 can't wheelspin or lock up anymore  and everything has to be secured in the boot. tyres should last around a year if they continue at the current rate.

the last car had uniroyal rainsport tyres... i have never seen so much spray from a car... used to be followed by my own raincloud when the roads were wet. the tyres lasted over a year and a half.

i have pirelli pzero nero's and they are pretty good, never had them squeeling round corners they just seem to always grip. But I don't feel like I have the confidence to push them.

Normal driving they are good, very quiet at speed.

Haven't had any other tyres on the car yet so don't have anything to compare them with. Anyone else used them?

I just put Dunlop sport maxx on mine in keeping with the original Dunlop theme from the original BRM,although I need the tracking sorted as the last tyres (Vredestein Sportrac 3`s) wore totally on the inner edge,I cant help feeling all the feedback that I had with the Vredesteins has gone and the whole front feels light and doesnt feel right when going up a motorway
