If its only light scratches try T-Cut color magic polish ... Worked on some of my smaller scratches.

 

Its deeper than that, Ive tried polishing it with colour magic.
Which makes it look slightly better and makes the scratch darker....

 

Can you feel it with your finger nail? If you can, you'll not be able to remove it via polish.

Would it look a mess if i or someone i know re sprayed it?
Or is it better to get a bodyshop to sort it?

 

If it was mine, I'd take it to a local bodyshop and ask them to quote it first, infact, go to a couple. I wouldn't try spraying it with rattle cans, you'll never get a perfect match especially if it's on the side of the car.

If its not hugely massive and not down to the bare metal then i would just leave as it. maybe try a couple of coats of megs scratch or swirlx as that has some heavy fillers that would disguise it a bit and see if that helps.

imo i wud just keep working in swirlx and srp until it fades as much as possible then slap on a few coats of gold class wax to protect it.
