hi

was wondering, how much coolant does the k series 1.6i r45 saloon engine hold.

im replacing the thermostat next weekend, so will be bleeding the system and replacing with anti_freeze/coolant

1.4 and 1.6 - 5.3 ltrs.
1.8 - 5.5 ltrs
2.0 and 2.5 V6 - 5.75 ltrs
Diesel - 7.0 ltrs

As per my owners manual.

 

those figures are dry fill refill figures are less by about 0.7 of a litre so don't worry if you cant get it all in as you can't drain the heater unless you start removing pipes and blowing down them

 

surely that is 5.3 litres including the water, not 5.3 litres of coolant?!

 

5. odd litres is the total capacity of the cooling system..if you are looking to replace the anti-freeze,the easiest way is to undo the bottom hose,and let drain,replace,and when re-filling use neat anti-freeze,what drains is roughly half the capacity or 2,5 litres,roughly, when re-placed and topped up after bleeding,you are at 50% anti-freeze/water.

 

sorry,i should have added,flush after draining,to clean the system out,and leave water only in it.incidently,if you look for a 'first line' make of thermostat,they do a stat that has a built in jiggle valve,that makes bleeding when its all back,easier.alternatively you could drill the valve plate 2mm.
