how do I remove the phone cradle

I bought my 75 with a Nokia phone holder installed and wired in. Can anyone tell me if it's possible to change the cradle for one that holds a Sony Ericson (that's the phone I have) and still keep the existing wiring. If so do you know where I'd get one? I can't see an obvious way to change it. Alternatively how easy is it to take out altogether and refit a cupholder which would have been there originally. It looks intrusive as it is and spoils the look and if it is no use I'd rather have it out.

this has come up several times on here or on the "other" club forum, may I suggest doing a search if you've not done so already. I don't think there was a definite answer.

I just "acquired" a Nokia phone (mine is a 6310) that fitted, because the handsfree kit that was already in my car is brilliant, auto-muting and playing through the radio. Much better quality sound than the bluetooth setup I had in my previous car. Admittedly it's on a fixed bracket, and I still have use of the cupholder.

(Mind you, I have a phone because I want a phone, not because it can do everything except cook the dinner.......)

You could always retain your Sony-E, on a Pay as you go basis, if you wanted.

Thanks for the responses. I know it's boring but I only carry a phone for emergencies so I don't need to spend hundreds of pounds on a new phone just to fit the cradle, I think I'd rather take it out so any tips on doing that without damaging the consol will be most welcome.

It's not that I want to have a cup holder, but the wood facia (when it's pushed in) lookes better than a hunk of empty plastic (the phone holder) protruding from the consol.
Good point, which I hadn't appreciated.

I've not actually seen one of these types, so doesn't it fold away when not in use then?

If not, could you relocate the cradle, ie make another bracket for it, and replace the cupholder so you have both?

That's seems like a good idea but I still can't work out how to remove the cradle, there doesn't seem to be any reachable screw heads, those that I can see are behind the holder, impossible to get a screwdriver to them. The holder must have been "snapped" on after the gubbins were fitted. I don't know how to post a photo which would show it better than I can explain it.

Can someone tell me where all the hands free kit is installed? I have the mounting bracket in lieu of the cupholder but dont know where the speaker, mic etc would be so i can tell if the whole system was removed prior to my purchase.

Well the mike on mine is velcro'd to the roof abutting the interior light, so all the wiring's hidden by the light. I think the factory fitting would actually be in the interior light.

Speakers, amp, etc? Well it plays through, and mutes, the radio on mine, but I've never taken the console apart to look. So I suppose the only way to ascertain whether you have all the gubbins is to try putting a suitable phone in the bracket (Nokia?? - is there any ident/brand on the bracket) and trying it. That's literally what I did!

Unfortunately i only have the bracket in leiu of the cupholder. There is no cradle to put the phone in just a couple of screw holes in the plastic bracket. I suspect that the whole thing was removed by the previous owner (MGR) but want to check to see what may or may not be there before I fit a different system.

The phone bracket is just clipped in, remove the rubber mat from inside the storage compartment (if it's there) use a torch and look inside, along the bottom edge nearest the centre console. You can see where the clip is which can be released using a small screwdriver or something similar.

Thanks Raykay, that exactly what I needed to know, I ve found the clip now I just need to work out how to unclip it without breaking it as I assume that the cup holder will be secured with the same clip.
Once again many thanks.

I have the same dilemma. I wish to remove the phone cradle accessory and replace it with a (nearside) cupholder to make the car back to standard.

Does anyone wish to do a straight swap with me?

The alternative is to sell it on e bay, which is a lot of hassle if two members can help each other.

Nokia handsfree phone cradle and kit

Hi,
I have just bought a 2002 diesel connie SE manual and want to fit a nokia handsfree kit. Does anyone know where I can get the phone holder bracket which fits in the front cupholder position and the rest of the kit with installation instructions?

It is easy to remove the cradle. With a small screwdriver you can push down the clip and take the cradle out. No risk of breaking anything, the plastic is quite flexible. There are two cables you need to unplug. One goes up to the phone kit, that in most cars is located bleow-behind the radio or TV/screen. To remove al this firts remove the eyebrow (very easy job), then you will see two screws, after unscrewing these you can lift the whole unit out. The other cable is the antenna. Remove the carpeted cover of the middle console next to the passenger feet - after first removing the plastic thing that covers the footwell duct. Then you can unscrew the antenna. I think 10 minutes of work, very easy. Don't throw anything away, you may never know!
