Evening all, just a quicky....if I had a k-series engine, say a 1.6, is there any way I could find out how old the engine was from the info on the engine?

not from the block itself. thats what i have been lead to believe. However the manifolds and other ancillaries can give a glue as to the age of the engine....but you prob knew that already.

Erm, well if u suspect it's older than it says it is, wait till it goes to the toilet, then rifle thru it's handbag and find it's driving licence..

The engine number may be of some use.......
...ie...in the case of the 1.4 K series..

14K4 FH....

14K4 FK

14K4 FL

It's not a definitive guide as to the year but can help. I had a FH engine which was from around 1995 and a FL which was 1998.....both dates supported by labels on the various components on the engine.

My own engine is FK and is 1997 vintage.............

I've not got anything 'up my sleeve' as it were, someone asked me the other day how they could tell how old a k-series engine was.....so I thought I'd see if I could find out! :D
