Hi Folks,

A slight problem with the temp heater control on the TF tonight. After setting it to hot and the car warming up, I tried to turn it down, however the knob felt 'mushy' when trying to turn it, and no matter where you now set it, its on the max temp setting. I seem to remember seeing this problem somewhere else, but cant remember the solution. It seems as though the knob and its attached gear has unattached itself from the mech inside?

Any suggestions?

Can't tell for definite of course, but sounds like the plastic stem has split. There is a spring clip inside the plastic stem, and if this is forced, it expands and splits the plastic stem. This weakens the whole thing, and nothing turns.

The answer is to fit heat shrink tubing over the stem, works a treat!

Me too - i am suffering from it myself at the moment.

But it's not a problem, i'm hoping Kev will come up trumps with the new heater controls.

I´m having that exact problem by now. Was thinking about changing them, but I think I'll wait to see if Kev finally makes those fantastic heater controls.

The other posibility is thatthe heath robinson cam device that translates rotational knob movement into a logitudinal cable movement may have come adrift. If it is this, this can be easily rectified by removing teh footwell light panel and refitting the plastic cam in place. I wrote some instructions for this which are in the MGF FAQ which may prove useful.
My guess is that it is the plastic stem, but always worth checking.

That sounds more like it, because I've got the Mike Satur Aluminium heater knobs, so it must be something inside, rather than the knob itself. I'll have a wee dig about see what I can see!
