hardtop lining refurb

Hi,

I have just refurbed the lining on my hardtop and I think that I have done quite a good job.

I have retrimmed the crappy old felt with some decent leather. £10 inc postage from ebay plus a £5 pot of top quality glue from wickes.

One small problem though - and I need a bit of direction if anyone can help. I need two small plastic fasteners that hold the lining to the hardtop and fit in near the rear.

The old ones fall apart as they come out (one is ok though) but they are grey and I need some black ones.

Had a look in a few hardware stores. checked ebay and even googled but can't find a thing. Would appreciate if anyone can help

Rick

I'm having mine refurbed by a friend who runs his own upholstery company and I need some of those too. I don't know what they are called but I'm sure Gary will do. I'll try and find out a name and source.
Thanks mate,

As soon as I get some and fitted I'll get some pictures posted.

It was easier than I thought it would be - I removed the old felt carefully and used it as a template for the new material. It was then just a case of being careful and having plenty of patience.

The only other thing I need to do is recolour the (grey) plastic trim around the inside of the windscreen to black. Haven't decided yet whether to replace these with black items or spray them with vinyl spray.
OK, I've sent text and I'll let you know when I hear back but they might be away until after the weekend.

My problem was that the grey lining had come unstuck from the fibreglass/foam padding.

I'm having mine done in blue, I'll add a couple of pics here too when my is done - but as they are doing it as a favour, it will be done when it's done :dunno:
After a load of searching and asking questions - I have found out that they are called 'fir-tree screws'. Only problem is I can't anyone that sells them in packets of less than 100!!!!!

btw - New glass window being fitted to the soft-top tomorrow.
Rick, just had a call from my mate tonight and he tells me they get them in bulk and he just knows them as upholstery grommets. As you're struggling, I'll see if I can blag you a pair.
you can get them from x part but they only seem to come in grey...
How hard is it to get the lining out of a hard top (I've got the heritage one if it makes a difference)?
mine was just fabric then a thin layer of foam underneath Steve, the foam had pretty much disintegrated, so was very easy
have you guys got any pics of these fasteners, ive got an upholsterer up the road who ive known for years, i may be able to source a few :)

Its the length thats important, if they are short like the one above they arent gonna be long enough, I text Mr Knob a similar picture..... I was given some like that but they just didnt work which is why I got mine from x part in the end
Take a look in your local Halfords at fixing pack HFX343 and see if they're suitable. I've just bought some but not tried them yet -could've done with beige ones!
Just had the glass rear window fitted today by Peter at MGFMANIA and what a job....brilliant!!!!!!!

He had a couple of these fasteners, but they were from a Mazda MX5 and unfortunately they weren't quite thick enough.

I'll put some pics on soon with the new rear window (once I've cleaned the car).

Hey, thanks for the advice, just been around there this morning and snapped up the last packet for the princely sum of £1.19. The pack had been opened and someone had pinched 4 of them (what a *****) so I got a £1 off.

Anyway, they were slightly larger than the originals and black (the colour I needed) but fit perfectly.

Result!!!!
Great stuff mate, I need to do mine at somepoint next year, its only a little grubby and will clean but i'm putting a ROVER 800 light up there too so a new lining to hide the mouning plate is needed !!!
