I am planning to fix the above, and have been reading up on the O.C site about this. I know there is a guy there who does the fix for club members, however I would like to get one of the shackles and do it myself.
There was a link to an e bay supplier, which I can't find again, could anyone point me to the supplier,or alternatively give me the measurement of the shackle an I can got one in a chandlers.
Thanks..

Sorry, dunno - I just hate seeing threads with zero replies. Especially from a local.

I'm sure that a search for 'compensator' or 'shackle' on this or t'other forum will yield the answer you're looking for.
I Tried that, and got plenty of links, but not the one I am after.I just want to find out where I can get the correct sized shackle to fit the job.

How'z things in sunny Cumnock this morn?

Check out post 237.

I modded mine by cutting and welding and has made the world of difference.

looks like shackle should be 48mm inside size.

This is the Link to the listing in the above post,
Think you need to mod it slightly for it to fit i.e a little grinding

Thanks Wullie,I read up about the welding fix,but was wanting to use the shackle instead, but the guy on the other channel says that the shackle on your link isn't the correct one,but he says that he will send me one.
If not I will just weld it up . Happy new year when it comes.

Must admit, I do prefer the weld solution to the shackle. With the shackle, you have to demount the pin by grinding the rivetted end flat so it can be punched through. After inserting the shackle and the pin, the flat surface has to be re-worked / cut and swaged to re-anchor the pin. A simple plate welded on the end is mechanically equivalent to the shackle fix. Mike_Noc's job is similar to what I intend doing.

EDIT: Just to make things clearer. The shackle fix is recommended for fixing used/stretched units, where resetting the U-bar is impractical. It gives the compensator a new service life. The weld fix is only realistic for treating an unused compensator. I do remember however, that the very first fix on a stretched unit was to re-compress the U-bolt to bring the arms parallel, then bend the upper arm towards the lower and apply a welded link to the ends.

My original welded one which i have suspicion is now starting to stretch again due to the soft U bend bar once i have sufficient proof after taking it off my tourer where it as been for 8 months or so to replace it with the stainless steel one i will post the findings up.

Ah I see a new pin system, that's much nicer.

Do you not think it's just pulling out the welded bend rather than stretching the U-bar? I don't think any evidence of actual stretching has been found so far.
