Just a thought but why hasn't anyone thought about asking TATA if they would look at a deal? TATA are richer than SAIC and PRIVATE!!! They don't have the same issues the Chinese have. The Indian car market is doing well and India is easier to do business with. They have a lot less red tape and although a deal may involve a lot of pain, TATA are financially strong enough to make MG and Rover winners.

Let's be honest TATA have been messed about a bit, but they have always acted honourably (at times more honourably than MGR themselves). Could TATA rescue MGR??? Has anyone asked them I wonder?

The Tata family already owns Tetley tea, so perhaps they'd like another British icon to add to the empire.

Or even the Hinduja brothers... as well as owning Ashok Leyland (trucks which still proudly wear giant Leyland plughole logos on the front), they stepped in to buy the Gulf oil brand from Chevron, so obviously not averse to rescuing iconic brands either.

I thought of it before. The Tata name will never make it in the world but with MG and Rover and some investments it could work very well!!

Private Eye have been a little less than complimentary about the Hindujas............I'll say no more except Tata could be a good idea.

Hmm … That may not actually be such a bad idea.

MG-Rover has already had discussions with various Chinese companies, and each time the talks have fallen through. Maybe this is a sign? Maybe it’s a sign that MG-Rover mustn’t do business with the Chinese?

If the government won’t nationalise MG-Rover Group then maybe TATA is the next best thing… let’s just hope Labour gets it right this time!!!

The Cityrover may not be everything it's cracked up to be, but TATA have money and MGR a talented workforce including an r&d capability. There was rumours in 2000 that TATA were in the frame to purchase MGR and TATA does get a significant business from producing cars for MGR and selling products through its sales network. Remember how TATA sales dipped on the news of the SAIC deal in November? And also the Xover concept was considered to have been created with MGR possibly in mind, with TATA very serious about breaking into Europe in a bigger way.
