Hi
I have been out looking today for a 75 and thought about a diesel but after a test drive I realised a diesel is not for me. The local dealer has found me a Rover management 75 conn/se July 2003 1.8 turbo in starlight silver. It seems that it has all the bolt on goodies and only done 7k. Trading in a six month old 45 Impression s with 7k on the clock plus they want ÂŁ7000. Has anyone any comments that may assist me? Has anyone else bought a Rover management car? The dealer is also giving it its first service by the way.

Thanks for any help.

Shame you didn't like the diesel - oh well another petrol head I bet

I was interested in the 1.8 T unit but after asking some of the people 'in the know' at various MGR meets I have changed my mind. General consensus was that the 1.8 T isn't that great.

I think mainly because people wanted the 150hp and the V6 grunt the 2.0l gave & really you are not gaining anything with the 1.8 T

Also as the diesel unit is from a B*W source and is fitted to 3 series giving 152hp it is a good buy - get the 116hp version. Have the 152 u/g done (ÂŁ300 approx iirc) and blow away those petrol versions with MASSIVE amounts of torque!!!!!!

Just my humble opinion you understand :D

I beg to differ. I have no real regrets about choosing the 1.8T over a diesel, this comming from someone who used to own a ZR-TD who liked the (more) torquey drive it offered. Diesels may well deliver grunt in-gear, but through the gears they are naff, because its like you are starting from scratch with every gear.

The 1.8T is a decent unit, it has a wide spread of torque and is quite economical for it's output.
The only problem is that it's not all that refined and can sound a bit course when revved which is out of charachter for the 75.

The V6 suits the 75 far better but has far higher emissions so kills the company car driver for tax. A private buyer would average around 8-10mpg less in my experience adding to the fuel bill.
For me the extra running cost were worth it for the extra power, refinement and engine note of the 2.5V6.

I went to the dealer to have a test drive in a diesel that I was looking at. I had to borrow it for a couple of hours to make sure that it would fit into my drive and garage (a very tight turn off a very narrow road) For some insurance reason they said I couldn't take the diesel home but I could book out the demo 75 for a couple of hours. I took it home and it fitted (just) then went back for a test drive with the salesman in the diesel. As soon as I drove off I realised a diesel was not for me because it just seemed sluggish after driving the 1.8t also when I gunned it down the motorway I left everyone else in a cloud of blue (yes BLUE) smoke. The unit sounded more like a bus than a car and to be honest it just put me off. Should the smoke not have been black? Surely blue is burning oil?.

How much am I getting for my R45 .........ummm good question...... like all dealers they give the price to change and then confuse the issue by saying things like "this isn't the price you are paying but this car owes us so much so we have to balance it off with the resale value of yours etc etc" All a load of old rubbish but it does cloud the deal in a form of secrecy known only to them! The best I can work it out is around ÂŁ7k but I could be wrong. I paid ÂŁ9995 last September! So her indoors is not impressed with me at the moment, but she will be when I get the 75....I hope!
