Hey guys I got gearbox issues it would seem topped my fluid up as I found I had a leak. Anyhow took it to my xpart service centre Black Diamond Power Products in Warrington who are gearbox specialists. They tell me that I have a leaks coming from multiple places. They say it could be a matter of changing a gasket or replacing the thing completely. But when they want £80 to remove for full diagnoses and to put it back in without doing anything, I'd rather look into putting that money into a new one. I have a 1.6 and wondered if Slashformayor was still selling any boxes and if they would apply to my 25?

Thanks

What a stroke of luck!! Would this be a possible straight swap? Would there be any issues or should I, as he suggests, use it to rebuild my current box?

use it to rebuild your current box.

not sure if they have changed since 1989 :err:

i think ratios will be the same. then again i'm no expert.

The reverse interlock was deleted from 1991 on IIRC.

I would strip both boxes, find out what bits broke on your original box and substitute with parts from the donor.

Remember to use new bearings and oil seals - if you don't its false economy as you will have to remove the box again in a short while.

Sean - If your not too confident or mechanically minded get a specialist to do the work.

I have rebuilt a few PG1's, but never opened and R65.

Regards,

Steve

There are not that many places for the R65 box to leak :

Diff seals
5th gear end plate gasket
two halves of casing
reverse light switch
selector grommet

Doddle to take to bits the R65, easier to do than tell tho

Thanks for the advice guys, G13SJC is it okay for me to pick it up Saturday then? Oh and its S8an/Satan My real name lies beneath it lol. :D ;)

Lates I took my current box to a "specialist" they said its leaking from (now I'm trying my best to remember) the diff and from the bell part. (I'm full of technical words).

He said if its a matter of taking it off and fixing as gasket or seal I'd be looking at £135 inc VAT & Labour. If repair wasnt possible I'd be looking at £364.25 including new box and labour.

Does anyone think that it could be that bad?

Oh and for replacement oil what would I need to buy to keep it topped up and where do I put it in?

If the 'box was on the bench to fit two seals, split the two halves and reseal the casing, replace 5th gear casing gasket is less than 2 hours work.

Sorry matey - I read it quickly.

Sat is fine - see my PM.

Oil is filled through top filler plug - if your going to do yourself get hold of a haynes manual and read up.
