I'm in need of a new gearbox for my 1992 214Si, is the gearbox from the bubble shape 200 cars the same as it's easier to find lower mileage examples of these than other wedges. I know they are all R65 boxes but just wondered if Rover changed anything on them.

Any help would be apprieciated.

Regards.

Later gearboxes are uprated. They have a "U" after the code number. ie 5C39WU. I don't know when these were introduced or what the upgrade consisted of. However they will fit your car no problem.
The very early boxes had a reverse gear interlock but I suspect yours doesn't? This can be disabled easily if you're using it on a later car.
I have one of these on my '95 at the moment.

Hey thanks for that crank, yeah my car doesnt have an interlock cable. I just don't want to fork out money for a gearbox that I cant use! I just have nightmares of the input shaft or drive shafts having one more spline or something lol.

You can use pretty much any R65, Just watch out for Metro/100 ones which have a different length selector arm which is easily swapped over.
