Fuel pump noise - silly question

1979 Views 4 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  no1knows
As I've never had a fuel injected petrol car before!!, do you wait for the pump to stop before fireing up? Or do most people just grind on the starter until it goes?
I can't decide which is better/worse, more engine turning to raise initial oil pressure, excess fuel in the cat, running the starter/battery down etc etc

It should only take a few seconds for the pump to prime, so I don't bother, never felt like the engine was struggling to start, always kicks on the first turn.
Thats one thing I have always noticed about my F is the instant start when you turn the key. I think it has always started on the first turn, except a few cold days
I had a problem with my pump some time back ( see www.apttony.co.uk ) so I got into the habit of listening for the pump to reach pressure before starting up.

I don't think it makes a great deal of difference, unless you are having problems in starting, in which case it's a good indicator of what might be wrong!

yeh was goin to say , turn everything off in your car before you put the key in, ( like blower stereo an stuff ) then put the key in turn it to three you hear a 'VZZZ' bout a second at the longest & then its all done, lol I usually wait for it to make that noise, most the time I usually wait for the lights decide what they're doing on the console ( like srs ) as yesterday it was playing up , ( bit wd40 on the connectors under the seats & its fine again, lol )
