I put 40 Litres of Petrol in my 216 SI 16v Auto, got about 275 miles.
Does this seem right,

Also, what is the tank capacity ( its a 1999 S reg )#

Thanks

You really need to record the fuel usage and mileage over several fill ups to get a reliable idea of the average consumption. Start and finish with a brim full tank. Also bear in mind that your speedo and therefore odometer will overread slightly, so will show slightly more miles than you have actually covered.

I used to have a 216Si manual, which did an average of about 42 odometer miles per gallon when relatively new. After about 9 years and 108k miles, it was averaging about 37mpg.

An autobox will always cause a higher level of fuel usage, but even so, I would expect more than 30mpg; probably around 34.

I am not so sure that this old idea is valid with the new autoboxes. Years ago 3 speeds were all you got now you can get 6 speed autoboxes. The Rover boxes are 5 speed and very good. The Steptronic box in my car is a dream to use. Fully auto or fully manual in sport mode (or auto in sport mode if you wish) Having had 2 auto cars I doubt that I would ever go back to a manual. It seems the way forward with many manufacturers now.The majority of older UK cars were fitted with the Borg Warner 3 speed box in days gone. That included RR, Bentley, Jags, Rovers, Austins etc etc. I can get 38 mpg out of my 45 V6 with a light right foot. On a run I normally get around 34 and around town about 25-28.

Regarding the fuel consumption, your driving technique can make a massive difference along with speed and traffic conditions and the use of the air con if you have it.
