Fuel consumption for a ZTT 180

Hi,

I'm new to the forum after taking delivery of a ZTT 180 in le mans green a couple of weeks ago.

Always loved the look of them and always wanted one, so just had to go for it!

A quick question about fuel consumption.

I was expecting the car to be thirsty but am only getting 220 miles out of a tank, although most of my driving is around town was expecting slightly more.

Does this sound reasonable?

My ZT190 gives a return of about 220-250 for around town (work and back) which these days is mostly sat in traffic amongst all the 4x4's, mercs, beemers and **** carriers driving one kid to school. Motorway work (minus the school run traffic) returns anything up to 330 per tank, depending on how much I thrash it.

Belcher.

P.S. Do I sound bitter and twisted about the school run? I always had to walk to school. I make it a habit NEVER to let a car out of a junction in the traffic if there's a kid onboard. Sorry, but this costs US money in petrol. We ALL pay to drive these kids to school in wasted fuel. BTW, I have 2 kids that walk or are walked to school.

Hmm, kinda went off topic I think :shh:

Does seem low mpg that!

The auto box won't help in mpg especially around town.

220 miles to a tank is about 15mpg!! Have you filled up, then done some miles then filled right up again. When engines are new they can use a tad more as the engine is tight and also power isn't at its best. The KV6 needs about 10,000 miles before its shows its best mpg and power.

I get nearly always 25mpg on the run to work and back, which is town, a bit of motorway and an occasional heavy right foot :D

A full tank is around 60-65 litres, I usually always put ÂŁ30 (33 litres of Optimax) (gives better mpg) and get 180+ miles. So working on that I'd expect to get around 350 miles to the tank.

Not sure about your consumption (sounds heavy, for a modern engine) as I'm a Diesel Yorkshireman, but I certainly echo your sentiments about the school run.
They are creating the very traffic hazard they seek to protect their unfit kids from.

A damn nuisance !

My 11 year old walks, as I did.
When he was very small I took him on my bicycle.

Hmm, sure right there. It takes me about 10 minutes to drive through Worcester City centre when the schools are off. I work about 7 or 8 miles away from home. When the schools are in, it takes me on average 45 minutes. Sometimes (usually when it's raining !!) it can take me 1 hour. I am sure I could walk it in that time, but I have to have my car at work as it's forms part of my contract (company car allowance as I also have to travel anywhere in the UK/Ireland at the drop of a hat).

P.S. Marky - Don't mean to steal your thread here. If anybody does reply to the fuel consumtion thing, I'll move this to a new thread. I too would be interested in getting a handle on the average fuel consumtion for the ZT. I also thought mine was bad when I first got it.

Ihad a similar problem with my ZS180. I was returning 290 miles on the tank. I had covered 40K and the air filter had not been changed since new, not due until the 45K service! Now the KV6 puts quite a bit of oil into the air filter via the oil breather so I got a new air filter and returned 320 miles on my next tank!

PS I have just had a service and been told that the intake hose is damaged. Only damage I can see is oil contamination! If I need to replace this then I will just get an induction kit, seeing as my warranty no longer exists!

Interesting statement about the oil. My V6 ZT, although described as having an "Induction Kit" when I purchased, had a performance filter in a standard air box but was directly fed by a grill mounted cold air feed pipe. I recently replaced this with a PiperCross filter. When I removed the old black rubber pipe (the ribbed one), it was very oily indeed. Is this normal, or is it a sign of a problem. Mine has just clocked up 16K on a 52 plate. BTW, the PiperCross doesn't seem to have changed the fuel consumtion in either direction (yet!).

!!!!320 miles a tank!!!! Never even got over 290, on a very very good day. Note to self, have a talk to right foot!. Oil in induction system is perfectly normal, if there wasnt oil there i would be worried. Keep a check on it and your oil levels and try to give it a wipe up every month or so.
BTW fitted an iTg kit (ZS180) now getting 200 Per tank!

best ive had is 315 miles witha quarter tank left but that was cruising at steady 60-65 on motrway(zs180 )but your never gonna get near that in a lot heavier car with an auto box,,,,,knocking around my car eats petrol like a starved elephant but i do drive it to have fun,,im talking prob 180 miles per 55 litre tank full.

RE: the oil in the intake.

I believe the design could have been better, it needs an oil catch tank as basically oil from the head is sucked into the intake. A small catch tank would solve this but would need emptying every so often, or put a drain tube in it back to the sump.

But its not that much and as said you can wipe it every month.

The low fuel warning light comes on at 300 miles (ZT190, about 25mpg), this is a mix of town and fast motorway.
Here's a little test though - when you next drive between tall buildings or under a tunnel open all the windows and hoof it. Makes no difference to the consumption but it sounds so good you won't care :bgrin2:

As for the school run thing, when I were a lad I had to cycle 5 miles a day to school in the rain, and those who lived to far to walk/cycle took the bus. Not really surprising that we've got a nation of fat kids larding up the roads.
