Colour coded open mouth grill FTW .... that will look fab :broon:

 

not if he is keeping the rest stock it wont!
id go for a colour coded mesh grill but keep the rover badge and keep the center bit
alternatively... just buy a zr grill and get a custom rover badge in the shape of an mg badge to cover it (wait, that is exactly what im doing)

 

Just wondering, how easy is it to colour match the front grill of my car? What would I have to do? I've seen the paint in Halfords thats the same colour as my car (British Racing Green 3 #HFF) and I've been thinking about doing it for some time. Just a lil scared of faffing it up

Would you recomend doing the job myself or is it best to have it done professionally?

 

know of anywhere i could find pics of this?

my main reason of keeping it looking mostly stock is because i LOVE sleeper cars.

just looking for a "personal" touch or 2

This was a computer mock up of what mine was possibly going to be like;

Mesh is a good look mate, what about also color coding your grille's T bar thing in the centre, Eddiesolos done this and it looks good.

edit: great looking car briggsy! Like that alot although thats a moto build face off grille, an open mouth 25 grille wont have the top lip. Another idea that 25 x said about is open mouthing a 25 grille, meshing it then adding a nice big rover badge onto it

 

that looks really good. so what about the colour of the mesh? black? or even try and get some chrome

might even try and find someone who could attach my spare glass eye instead of the badge or is that just plain wrong?

I bought that one from a member on here, but i painted my old one myself.

Basically primer/colour/mesh. I guess about £30 in total.

The best subtle mods are Colour Coding and re-meshing the lower Grille and meshing the Top Grille, the car will still look stock !!!

 

my idea is to get rid of the plastic, keep the chrome and paint some mesh material either black or silver. or does anyone have a better idea?

I have a silver R25 and......... I have taken the grille slats out and........I have re-meshed it and..........I have painted it black

It didn't turn out as cool as I thought tho, I don't like the mesh (looks cheap and nasty) and i don't like the black against the silver car

Why diden't you colour the outer plastic to match your car? Would look way better IMO.

 

I was just using-up the paint I already had in the shed!!!

I'm on the hunt for a ZR front end anyway

its done. i kept the centre and used stainless steel mesh. ill do the lower part another day as just after i bout the first one i started having clutch trouble and i need a new clutch.

thanks. i might even be able to do the lower part tomorrow it just depends on if i can get a clutch fitted.

 

the saga continues...... now i have a new gearbox and clutch im going to do the lower mesh. is it a bugger to get to? do you have to remove the bumper to get to it or is there another way?

 

Bumper off, or get the car on some ramps and try that way, bumper off, will be the easiest method.

also is it worth taking the fog lamp blanks out and meshing them or would it look crap?

 

is there anything i should watch out for as im taking it off?

 

just get fogs imo
and, you dont have to take the bumper off, just remove the grill.
stick your arm through and you can do it.
not easy but saves taking the bumper off

 

i have podgy hands i might not be able to get in there really. lol

 

remove the top grille and go in from there with the bonnet up.

have to say, wasnt sure when you just did the grill
but with matching lower mesh that looks mint
bet you're well happy with that!
