Hi,
Is it acceptable on this forum to deliberately attempt to belittle and or offend each other?
It is not acceptable to express sexist, racist or homophobic or disrespectful
beliefs in the life I live.
I use a few car forums, attend a local Rover car group,
go to a few car shows each year, enjoy tinkering with old cars, enjoyed doing a number of jobs on various cars over the years etc.The point I am making it's a hobby to me.
Does this forum have a guide on forum behaviour?
Sorry rant over

See his post about Engine Bay Fan, Here Icony thought he was being clever, although it may have been alcohol talking.

But back to the OP if you feel offended use the Report button & ask the Mods to see if they agree. If they do they have options to sanction the offender, however I would suggest that you just ignore/block his posts, some people get a perverse pleasure out of trying to belittle others to mask their own shortcomings.

Incony just confuses the ******** out of me with his ramblings. I've filed him with Pat under the heading "forum entertainment". (Although Pats good with the books so he's worth knowing :) ).

I think the closest this forum comes to racism is the hatred of Chinese tyres. I dunno, they all look the same to me.

There are a few members on here who don't come across very well when they post. I think you were unlucky that one may have found your thread/question when they had a spell of literal diarrhoea.

Sprinterdave, I have been on here 2 years now, and very active, but I can count only on one hand the amount of times I have seen what you have unfortunately seen.

I see an overwhelming sense of people trying to help each other, which is where your thread finally ended up - with a solution.

Don't let it put you off posting.

It goes on quite a bit, across all the forums on here.A lot is ignored, some posters react, but most not,and so it goes un-noticed.As said in a post some way above,a lot of it is to hide their shortcomings, and they revel in the effect.

Lets face it probably everyone on here is at the least over 18 if not over 25, so were all grown ups.
I worry that some people take my posts a bit to seriously some times, as i like a laugh, a wind up and a bit of mischief, but their are people on here who either take everything you type literally or are painfully over sensitive.
The problem is with email or text is that, its very easy to misinterpret or interpret something the wrong way or at least in a way different to the posters original intention.

I'll go back to one point though, i believe it would be a good general guide line on here, to take most posts in good nature and try and see the cheeky/humourous/light hearted side of any post as I believe thats how most people intend them.

For my self if anybody is upset by what i post on here then PM and have a chat, because take my word on this, i am to short on time, to spend it on here trying to upset people, but do i like coming on here having a bit of banter and fun? YES

Like that line in a song "Please don't let me be misunderstood" what was that record? going to bug me all day and i can here the guitar line too.

P.s. racist or homophobic?

I don't think so, unless as i say your taking things very literally and not taking into account a bit of humour.

Sorry But i have to say I hate over PC ness almost as much as health and safety overkill and petty bureaucracy.

And just so no one takes offence  this post is not aimed towards any other poster.

Yes there are rules on this and the admins and moderators could and perhaps in past go over board - if there is post and/or thread you aren't happy about then report it by clicking on the triangle under the posters name in the post you wish to report and say why you feel that it's inappropriate.

Also there is the ignore list for those members you don't wish to to see - use it!

Well I for one like Incony's posts - cryptic they might often be, but he's never offensive and does try to make people look at causes as well as fixes.

This forum needs more characters, it's lost too many over the last couple of years.

Lets hope we don't lose another one...

i suspect incony's writing style leaves something to the imagination when trying to decypher his posts: three words, ellipsis ... three words, ellipsis ... three words, ellipsis ... and repeat. also, i'm not sure that english is his first language, so some meaning could be lost in translation. however, his comments were a little terse and i can see why sprinterdave was offended at the time - i was tempted to wade in and comment myself, but as others have said, i don't think incony was being intentionally rude and just maybe he had had a few nippy sweeties before writing his post. live and learn.

I can see how you may feel offended. As has been said though, text does leave a lot of room for misinterpretation, particularly if soneone isn't using their first language.

So far, I have found this forum to be the best I have experienced when it comes to one-upsmanship. Those who have years of experience are happy to share itwith those who dont. I have seen way too many forums die a slow death as if you are not one of the so called elite, your opinion doesnt matter, which makes itvery hard for newbies to get involved. Happily I have experienced none of this here.
Also, in my short time here have been pleased with mods not being over involved. One forum I lurk on has a few power tripping mods and it makes it a very boring place!

I am too a fan of Incony's cryptic posts.

He'd get on well with that footballer who went rambling on about seagulls and the like. :dunno:

There needs to be more characters and eccentrics, me hopefully falling into both categories.

Thank you John, now i dont have to have that song rolling round my head thinking who is it.

I was going to repost saying that it def wasnt robbie williams i was thinking of but some 60's ish group maybe the yard birds.

Close but no cigar for me tho.

So the assumption is that Incony's primary language isn't English because his posts are hard to decipher?

To read that in a post with no paragraphs, initialisation and incorrect spelling is brilliant. Maybe his posts are just too literate?

Glasshouses... Stones... Throw

I think i asked Incony once if his 1st language/ethnicity is english, but i cant remember what the answer was or if i understood it!

I think the alternative is he is a philosophy student/professor, come on Incony come and enlighten us all.

He is a good egg tho, and a regular contributor.

For an online forum, this probably has the least amount of offensive posts etc.

Anyone who finds Incony offensive - i'm sorry but if you've spent anytime outside of the house - you hear much worse on a day to day basis at the office.

His posts make naff all sense to me but I like 'having a go' at deciphering them from time to time.

I don't want to come across badly to the OP - but this thread is simply a non-starter. I don't think he's offensive in the slightest - my best mate was more offensive to me today just a few hours ago. Granted it might say more about my social capacity than anything else but it's a point none the less.

Not offensive, just a bit condescending.

You're dead right though, EVO's forum is brilliant, but it's very much the thick skinned forum! This thread for example would have been replied to with a cry of "go on you sissy - flounce!"

Totally different mentality!

Yes, another exceptional voice from the sixties.

Do not need rose tinteds for my ears to appreciate they do not make 'em like Burdon, Cocker, Chris Farloe, Stevie Winwood anymore.

Some years ago, I used to watch X-Factor and similar shows hoping to see the next exceptional talent.... no chance. They do not make 'em like that anymore, but they do manufacture some... more's the pity.

Back on the OP's topic ... did not check the link provided but, based on my readings, Icony's postings are a puzzle in an enigma sometimes which even the collective analysts in GCHQ would be hard pressed to interpret.

Still helps to pass the time when you get to my age.

I suggest if the OP wants to witness widespread nastiness on a car enthusiasts' site, he browse the FI threads and some others over on PistonHeads such as the one devoted to today's event in Belgium.

Holy Schmoley as some bald headed 'murican cartoon character would exclaim... ;)

I've met Icony and he is a lovely bloke, I know that his posts sometimes are a little hard to understand but I'm 99% sure he means no malice! it's just the way he writes.
