its the first time i did anything like this so i was a bit wary. but its really not that bad if u take ur time and pace urself...

its all about p38 for me...cut out the middle badge with saw and then sand down the rough edges...use filling mesh and p38 to fill the gap...sand and smooth...then primer and paint...job done!

ERm, Sie has some pics around somewhere, he has black mesh, so does Steve.

I cheated, i used the bottom mesh from the 200 - yes...the really crap stuff for my upper grille. Was about 2 years ago, and wanted it there and then!
Never go around to ever changing it, dont even think anyone has noticed how bad it is!

hi guys, ive got the old school rover 200 and ive fitted fine mesh to top and bottom, mainly to keep them b*****d flies off my radiator!! but i left the rover "teeth" in (the black plastic bits) and stuck the mesh behind the grill, it doesnt look "chavish" and does the job, obviously if your wanting to make your car look like a chav-mobile then take the teeth out!

painting mesh is pretty easy and looks less "chavish" best place to buy mesh is B&Q, yes the DIY place, they sell steel mesh for building work, but its good quality and pretty cheap, if your painting it its ideal, if not then it will go rusty!

i reccomend fine mesh to all, it not only looks good, it does a practical job of protecting your radiator! :spanner:

What black teeth, last time I looked the slats were grey if that's what you're refering to.
Also I wouldn't call meshing the grill with the right sort of mesh chav either.
If that's the case you have just insulted half of the members on this forum and I don't see the point of meshing if your not gonna take the plastic slats out. Seems totally pointless to me.:err:

Looking very nice there Hincey mate. Just looking at the grill surround. Did you laquer the paint, seems a bit dull compared to the other paintwork on the body?
yeh man i did two coats of halfords lacquer but it was crap! didnt even bring any shine up...i put it on for now for the sake of it...but to be hoenst, its not the best job in the world...is there any other lacquers that'll bring it to its shine?? or is it all down to the paint work?

Actually the Halfords laquer is pretty good. I've managed to get some pretty good finishes with it.
The key is to have a hairdryer handy. Cure each coat with the hairdryer and it will dry to a nice smooth finish. On the final coat dry with the hairdryer until you get a mirror finish.

I always get a much better finish than without the use of a hairdryer.

hmmm well to be honest it was the first time i ever sprayed anything on a car. i will redo it one day wehn i have the patience to wait for paint to dry lol...mite give it one more coat of lacquer and see what happens. the final coat of paint was quite matt, do u think this has anything to do with it?
