Unfortunately I have to agree, and I did some research into these products. It's by the sheer nature of how they work, that is the problem mentioned above.
If I had a car that was otherwise going to the breakers yard, I would give it a try, but your car isn't in that bracket.

 

ye unfortunately i know your right. My uncles friend is a ex-full time mechanic and now just does it for hobby. So hopefully he can do a cheap but good job for me!!!

 

Thats the way to go. I am pleased you have a solution. All of us on here have different depths to our pockets, and the simple solution such as throwing money at something isn't always an option for some of us.......... I should know because I think somebody's sewn up mine!!......... some of us have no drives, let alone garages.................... and a socket set does not maketh a mechanic!!

 

tis going round tomorrow for him to take a look and price it up! I hope he can do it for alot less!! Ummm...I presume he might know but what else needs changing if the HG is getting done. Bearing in mind ive just had a cambelt and timing belt done. I thought id solved the problem when i found the leaking rad pipe, but it would appear not!

 

Cheap HG job with timing belt staying should cost £150 tops.

 

Anything under £300ish is a result...............

As said before if you are going to keep it, try to do the proper job.

 

Im just looking on sleez-bay for a HG set. Found these two. Can anyone confirm they are both the correct ones. I have 98 rover 200 1.4 16v engine.

Slap a payen gasket in there, no need to replace head bolts, easy. Done in 3hrs.

 

umm no. Im not intending to keep it after the HG change. I need a more suitable car unfortunately!

 

£50 tow it away?

 

The second one is old stock, that'll be the old style gasklet = no good.

Go to a motor factor and ask for a Payen BW750 head gasket. No more than £30.

 

I think Somerset just got a whole heap closer!!

 

I'll have to see what guy says tomorrow before i make a decision!

As much as i appreciate the fact that the car is broken, quite seriously, £50 would be a right kick in the nads!

 

does not cost more than 60 in parts for the full job presuming all that needs replacing is HG
(this inc. oil and coolant etc)
so if someone can do it for you and you can owe them a favour its not the end of the world.
70 quid if you buy a round down the pub after.

 

Would have to be somebody with a very kind heart to do it for a tenner!!!! Or even a drink! :beer2:
