The heater knobs on my TF are annoying me they have been hand painted silver and look horrid, I've taken one off and started to clean it up and I want them satin black. Looking at forum posts before someone has fitted prisms and opened up the dash hole to light the indicator on the knob.
I was thinking a small length of fibre optic cable glued to the shaft of the knob and ending at the hole in the knob but my knowledge of fibre optics is scant. I have heard that if you cut the end at an angle where the light source originates it gathers more light. If this is true what happens if I carefully scrape the last inch (inside the light box) will this gather more of the available light.

As an addendum to the above.
Whilst trying to clean up the knob I thought has anyone tried drilling out the dimples round the knob, does this allow any light through?

You might find it easier to fit a heater panel and set of knobs from the 2005-on TFs as they have revised controls with more illumination.
