Was hoping for some guidiance on this got this car the other day with h/g as project, the owner siad the RAC had done a sniff test and it failed, and it defernitly overheated as i just about made it back LOL,

anyway got started on first hg on the 600, all well after some much needed advice, took the head off and h/g is fine ??

Now i,m no expert but i,m assuming exhust gases must be getting to the cooling system, if the gasket is ok what else can it be ?

warped head ? but i would have thort that overheating would have effected gasket likewise ? or could there be crack in head ? if so would it actaully drive for 15 mins smoothly ? as that sounds abit drastic.

The only gasket i thort looked abit worn was the intake but i,m not sure how that could have any bearing on tghings ?

yes the head gesket can look fine ..and could be still gone

check the head with a strait edge for warpage .

and have a look for corrosion of water passages whilst you are there .

just one other thing i was wondering if people on this site often renew oil jet seal ? as mentioned in manual ? and my car did,nt seem to have the locating dowls ? am i missing something LOL
