Hi, I've noticed a grumble from under the car getting louder over the last couple of weeks - thought it was a blow from the mid section, when I looked ,the flexible wrap around the joint (in front of the under floor cat) is flapping around. I changed the head gasket last year and thought this section looke a bit floppy at the time.

It looks like around £80 for a cat section on ebay up to the manifold and a few hours to get the old one off, or alternatively, could possibly repair the flexible section - anyone done this before? Are these cheap exhaust/cat sections any good?

Its a 45 1.6 from 2000, pre type approval for the cat I think.

Hi marco, thanks - I haven't see that part separately as a Rover MG part - maybe I missed it or I'm guessing you're thinking of chopping out the flexible section and replacing it?

 

There's no difference between a 400 and a 45 exhaust with the same engine size so....

Found this on the Bay of e, I'm needing a new front section as the flexi has split too!

It mentions it's for a 1.4 and a 1.6. (which incidentally have the same flexi section)

so its a bit more - the short ones look like they go up to '99 for 1.6

Don't know if this could be adapted but by teh time I've messed around with it I will prolly think I should have just paid the money and bought the front section. seems a shame if the rest is OK.

 

Ahh no problem, I was going off the rimmers listing - although I was in a hurry so probably missed the change-over date

 

i was going to do this to 400 i owned (replace just the flexi ) but it proved uncost effective as after pricing parts and doing the welding myself it was just the same price as buying a new down pipe with flexi off ebay ,although i did price up a stainless flexi as these go more than the actual pipe.
