I have just fitted a new backbox to my car as the old one had blown. I got hold of a 3" s/s exhaust from a friend and fitted it yesterday, but it is too loud and its anoying me already!

Is there anyway i can make it quieter without buying a different backbox.

depends, if its a cat back exhaust you could try fitting a bigger silencer in the centre section. if its just a back box then not much you can do apart from getting a new back box.
