Hi I want to change the crankshaft position sensor on my rover 75 1.8......the haynes manual says to jack up the left hand front wheel to improve access to the sensor......I have done this and removed the wheel but I cannot for the life of me see the sensor......it should be on the front of the bell housing of the gear box.....can any one give me any advise or pictures of it would be even better........thanks on advance Bob.

The crankshaft sensor reluctor ring is around the outer periphery of the flywheel, so the sensor itself will be mounted on the widest part of the bell housing. About where the starter ring gear would be.

I've just had a look through my very expensive and difficult to read MGR Manual (only ÂŁ40 from Amazon folks) and I'd say yes, it's accessible from the nearside. I suspect you'll be better under the nearside than working through the wheel arch (axle stands essential). The crank sensor has a lead and connector plug which comes up to somewhere near the battery box. If you can find that and trace it back to the sensor. It looks to be vertically below the coolant temperature sensor, which is at the RH end of the head.
