My 2nd hand R400 has no such code come with it.
What shall I do then?
Take it back to rover or take it to somewhere to re-code it?
I think you can take it to Rover and ask them to retreive your code from the Alarm's ECU.

I need to do this with mine, as I don't have an EKA and my fob seems to getting less and less responsive :(

For a fee iirc and i think Powertrain or some other Rover parts suppliers can also do it for a fee.

Correct - 20 mins and you'll be sorted with a code.
Why didn't they give me my code when I had a FOB re-programmed months ago?

I asked the guy to get me the code while he was reprogramming the fob and he said it would be another fiver to get it.
Ok I said, however 5 mins later he comes back to me and says he can't give it me because the Rover website was down, so he couldn't retrieve the code.

Was he just being a lazy barsteward instead of hooking it up the right equipment to get the code?

No more than 0.4 hr - that's the SRO time for the job.

Can be done in 5 mins flat though!

Agree with that, When I had a new fob programmed into my old 400, they coded it in and read the code in 2 minutes.

Just connect the device to the diagnostic port, switch on and scroll down the menu to retrive Emergency Key Access code, press enter, and bingo.

I use the tool from Avon for the 75 service light reset and the nice bloke Paul somebody or other called me to say they had forgotten to post the instructions.
We chatted for ten minutes arranging mems 1.9/3 dianostic + 5AS equipment prices when he offered me a visit to the peeps who make the GTM kit car ( in Coventry ) for a demo. I am waiting for an email detailing costs so pencil me in if you need a KAC / EKA. ;)

Dr Dave I have this code for my son in laws car and I think we need to use it. BUT we don't know how !!! Help please if you can. Thanks. :dunno:
How to input the EMERGENCY KEY ACCESS CODE

1) Using the key, turn the drivers door lock (clockwise) to the LOCK position and hold it there for at least 5 seconds. Then return the key to the centre position. It is now possible to use the key to enter the numerical value of the four digits of the EKAC as follows

2) Enter 1st digit
If the 1st digit is 4 turn the key to the UNLOCK position 4 times. Ensure the key is fully returned to the centre position after each turn of the key.

3) Enter the 2nd digit
If the 2nd digit is 3 turn the key to the LOCK position 3 times. Ensure the key is fully returned to the centre position after each turn of the key.

4) Enter 3rd digit
If the 3rd digit is 2 turn the key to the UNLOCK position twice. Ensure the key is fully returned to the centre position after each turn of the key.

5) Enter 4th digit
If the 4th digit is 1 turn the key to the LOCK position once. Ensure the key is fully returned to the centre position afterwards.

6) Finally, turn the key to the UNLOCK position one more time, this will re-mobilise the engine.

If the code has been entered successfully, the anti-theft indicator light will stop flashing and the engine can be started.

IF AN INCORRECT CODE HAS BEEN ENTERED:

If the code has been entered incorrectly, a warning bleep will sound when the key is turned to the UNLOCK position. In this case:

- Open and close the door (this will cancel the error)

- Enter the code again.

After three failed entry attempts the security system invokes a delay period of ten minutes during which the system will not accept any further attempts to enter a code.

Once deactivated, the engine immobiliser will remain inactive until the handset is next used to lock the car.
