Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone has tried connecting there pre 2001 MGF to an OBD2 scanner using those cheap adapters found on ebay?

My uncle has a laptop diagnostic program and an obd2 cable so I figured just an adapter should work...or am I wrong?

Thanks in advance

Give it a go/ I’m sure they will do the same job. It will either communicate or not. Laptop and Bluetooth are usually fun trying to get the correct port set up but you will win eventually.

The big problem is that the protocol used in Rover OBD1 is not compatible with OBD2 so your laptop program may not be able to speak to the car.

It is also worth noting that some of the connections on the OBD1 socket are not the same as in OBD2.
