I decatted my car today, and now its really loud, I was told decatting a turbo car wouldn't make much difference to the car but when I plant my foot down its really loud,

does this sound normal ?

Also the pipe that runs down the side of the intercooler from the top was covered in oil, would people recommend buying standard pipes or after market ones ?

Don't know about the CAT. Mine has still yet to be gutted, but If you have had a decat PIPE fitted, I would imagine it would be louder than a gutted CAT and def louder than a standard. The question is - by whos definition of loud - and have you got a loud box by the rear bumper too?

Me - I wouldn't buy any pipes. Just salvage what was left and wang a peice of stainless or ally pipe with rubber or silicone ends. But that is cos I is skint init... :)

Fit an oil catch tank too - you can make one from a steel coffee can to test- or by one for 20 quid plus - and see if that oil is coming from your turbo or your rocker cover breather. If it is the rocker breather - its solved. If it is your turbo .... well just depends on how much it is bleeding.

Good luck

Decat is a proper decat pipe, as I have a decent scrap merchant that should recover most of what I paid for the decat, + I got a deal purchased my decat and got an EGR delete kit for free. so ÂŁ40 for a decat wasnt bad at all

Loud for me, and the father in law who also said it was really loud..had quite a few modded cars all decatted and this for just a decat is on the louder side of the scale

No loud pipe at the rear, (thankfully)

Makes sense if you can do it, but i dont think I will be too much out of pocket if any for this mod..

Would love to make an oil catch can, but wouldnt have a clue where to start, and garages round here only really do standard work,

I was out today and had the window down and the noise did sound like it might be coming from the middle of the car, I was thinking maybe the decat hadnt sealed properly, but will get it back on the ramps and see if I can see any leaks, or damage to the flexi.. hopefully an easy fix if it is one or the other of them..

I will make one and show you how to do it :D
Be interesting to see. Not sure I would have the DIY skills to do it.. Honestly when it comes to cars and fixing them, Frank Spencer would have more luck

Thanks for clarifying, can hear the turbo more, but its more the noise when accelerating, when cruising at 60/70 its fine, but when my foots on the floor its mega loud. I have asked the in-law who I borrowed the ramps off if I can borrow them again and i will have another look, just gotta wait for them to be free now.

unless you make an EXCEPTIONALLY large catch-can, it won't separate the suspended oil fumes from the blow-by gasses - it's simply not what they're actually meant to do (their original purpose, is pretty much non-existent in modern production engines too, especially transverse engine fitment)

Length of pipe to the back of the car, this gets rid of the oil mist, vapours, and that nasty smell

Found my fault, massive hole in my centre pipe just before the backbox. so now on the hunt for a new centre pipe and backbox, but all scrap yards only have ones for the petrol ones..

had a look at your guide WTF.. good guide but not sure its for me. maybe in the future when I get everything else sorted that I want.. Just keep running into more and more that needs fixing.

Got a quote from power flow of about ÂŁ350, as much as it is tempting just cant afford that right now, spent so much on the car in the last month, wasn't planning on buying an exhaust just yet, more being forced too

I was told the 160 backbox should fit the diesel, so 1 plan I have if I cant find a cheap enough second hand stainless is go for one of these http://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/c/M...usts/exhaust-parts/?705751621&1&de38b9dab74ca030654153a4bbc265b85635a7f8&000536
with this centre as it says it has the fitting kit with it, which should save a few quid..

Not the best looking back box but at least the exhaust wouldn't be facing the floor, (providing I'm right and it fits)
