Curvy vs Angular

Moved this to a new thread.

In the age old argument F vs TF the point of view came up that curvy looks more sporty than angular.

Personally I disagree. I think the ultimate sexy looking car combines both curves and angles, but a modern looking sports car leans more towards angles.

Moved from another thread:

The MGF is the better of the two imo for several reasons such as being nice and curvy which makes it more sportier looking and I also believe that once you get a spoiler and a splitter on they are a lot more sporty looking but that is only my personal opinion.
Ah yes, curvy = sportier. I can see where you are coming from. Them angular cars look so slow.

:)

Jaguar e type one of the sexiest cars ever. Does that have curves??
Is this a good time to say that I have never liked the e-type? Too curvy, bonnet is too long and distance between wheels is too narrow for the body,

I think this is more sexy, and more angular, but from the same stable.

I like a car that looks fast.

It's never a good time to say you don't like the E-Type! :guns:

Seriously though, Carol and I have discussed this many times and we feel that a subtle combination of cuves and lines in proportion gives the best aesthetics.

For the record we both feel that the TF is an improvement on an already excellent design.

The F is let down by an overly "soft" look at the front. The headlights are too dominant and the whole effect is that of a slightly too squat and fat "face". IMO both the Midget and MGB have better fronts. They have a better balance of proportions which was restored by MG with the facelift to the TF.

The modern look towards fat and angular is definately a step backwards in car design in general...........

well I don't think it looks bad (aside from the V12 which looks like a fat pig and the 2+2 which is far too upright) but it's a clear case of form not following function in that the narrow track leads to poor handling but at the time it only had horrid cart sprung cottage industry Ferraris to contend with so it didn't matter too much

Personally i like the curves best. Nothing better than curves and nothing worse than square flat.

I believe God creates all his finest works with curves and round edges. The Earth, Girls, a barrel aged round oak tree round glass of brandy with a curved Cuban cigar and an MGF. Heaven on Earth :) Oh i forgot burgers.

Lucifer on the other hand creats all his works square and flat. Polititians, Gatso's, cycle boxes at junctions, my misses and MGTF's

So to sum it up, Curve = good. Square = not good!

I think thats all the hard scientific evidence we need. :)

with terrible ground clearance, worked in a garage on an industrial estate that put up speed humps while we had one in the workshop.when it came to time to go,the car wouldnt clear the humps.we loaded it on the recovery truck to get it out....

I think theres examples of sporty curved and angular that work, also many that dont!

What you on about. That VeeDubbleya looks far mre sporty than them strange curvy things.

Seriously though, I think we could both trawl the internet and find some truly awful curvey AND angular cars.

I actually like the butch (Fat?) angular, almost evil look of some of the modern cars. Look more purposeful and planted.

I "admire" the design of a lot of the older cars, but I prefer mdern stuff.

As I said, the best cars incorporate both angles and curves to their best effect.

Don't really get the curves V angles thing - some cars are nice some are not and it all depends on what you like - we are all different:lol:

I like the look of the F but may buy a TF in the future, you never know:dunno:

In fact I am getting quite drawn towards a TF in X power grey of late!

The perfect combination of curve and line....just more within our price range :p

I agree whole heartedly and with no bias at all as you'll see below.

I think the MGF has a more classic look than the TF and even though its softer in the face its a stunning looker but doesn't encourage people to shift when you're coming up behind them, whilst the coupe has people moving out of the way, I love them both so am now running both as I couldn't part with either.

oh yes and Curves for me definately not angles.

The new Lambo's are great examples of angular cars, they are beautiful looking things and no way will they ever look dated, a guy i know has just restored a lancia integrale to a brand new state, again very angular and even being over 20 years old it looks amazing in this day and age and will turn some heads !
